Are these multifocal IOLs?

hi Janice I feel for you. I have got an appointment in September to find out what is to be done as my second cataract surgery has resulted in my new lens being covered in scar tissue. As I am 85 I don't fancy YAG in case it causes more complicatiins. What are hit rags?

Janice - I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this situation. I would recommend that you seek at least two other opinions from good Ophthalmologists as it sounds like you had the wrong lens placed in your eye. It might be too small, it might be the wrong prescription. It's unfortunate you've had YAG because I've heard it's harder to get a lens exchange if that procedure has been done. However, I'm not a doctor so this might not be the case. Maybe you can get an exchange. If you're younger it's also possible the issue will resolve (something about the size of our pupils becoming smaller as we age). Do not give up hope! Medical technology is changing quickly every single day.
Contact the manufacturer of ReStore and tell them your story. It's doubtful you'll get a response, but this manufacturer should know some patients have problems with their lenses. It can't hurt to contact them and ask them if they know, as manufacturers of this particular lens, a way to resolve your issues. Ask them to recommend an Ophthalmologist you can contact (why not?)!
And please talk to your doctor (M.D., general practitioner) about your depression. There is no harm in being open and honest about what you're dealing with. After my vitrectomy I was an emotional wreck. My doctor told me that in all his experiences, he found that patients who had either heart surgery or eye surgery were emotionally impacted the most in comparison to other surgeries. To me that makes sense. Our hearts serve as the location of our soul - our love, our compassion, our whole being. We take our hand and place it over our heart when we are touched or emotionally moved. When we pray or plead for help from whatever God or universal force we believe looks over us. And our eyes... our sight represents our independence, freedom, and allows us to see the world around us with all its beauty (and ugliness). The idea of not being able to see the colors of the world, the people we love, the places we visit... it's frightening.
You are not alone. Know that. We are all here to support each other and to find and share solutions.
Keep us posted!

what do you mean the lens was too small? i thought most of them were standard 6mm and we didn't have choice to get larger iol's. i for one would love a larger iol.

Janice if you ate experiencing this due to pupil dilating beyond IOL perhaps experiment with pupil constricting drops. If the arc goes away at least you'll know the reason for it

Sorry for the confusion. I believe you are correct that the lens size is standard. What I meant is that as we get older the muscles that control the pupil lose some of their strength causing the pupil to be smaller. Someone younger may have difficulty with shadows or glare because their pupil reacts more quickly to light and expands wider than the replacement lens.

Hi Janice - so sorry this issue is still troubling you. (I think we chatted many months ago). I lost my original ID and had to create a new one. If I recall the glare and blurriness was bothering you both night and day? Do you see the black shadows all the time too or just when pupil dilates?
Have you seen your surgeon recently or been to someone else for an exam?
So sorry this has been an ongoing problem.

You have described my left eye after cateract surgery in March. The wavy glare lines and black shadows but perfect vision. I did have the YAG laser but then my vision in that eye was worse. Now i have scarring on my macular that can be removed with more laser, but we agreed to wait 6 months to see if it settles a bit first.

did you get the macula scarring from the YaG?

Probably not, although I wish I'd asked that question myself . I suspect it was from the blepharitis infection I had in that eye after the surgery. He used the YAG on both eyes even though their was no problem with the right, and the right is still fine. He will be using the YAG again to remove the scarring if we decide to go down that path.
