Still experiencing terrible side effects at six weeks

I've been taking sertraline for five and a half weeks now and while it has definitely helped with the anxiety I am still experiencing fairly severe side effects. I am having daily migraines and/or headaches, I'm nauseous all the time, and I have insomnia and constant vertigo. I'm hoping the side effects will disappear at some point, but most of the stuff I've read states that the side effects tend to be less severe within just a few weeks of starting sertraline. Has anyone else experienced side effects for this long and if so did the side effects disappear eventually?

hi, I take 50 mg of the brand name Zoloft and have never had those side effects.

but everyone reacts differently to meds...

i don't know where you are but if you can get the brand name it might help. sometimes it could be the additives in the generic. but sometimes insurance won't cover brand if there's a generic. it's worth a shot your doctor would just need to write a prescription for brand only.

otherwise if you tell your doctor about the side effects they'll want to put you on another med.

also if you are able to and don't already try exerscing in the morning. just so you'll be tired by night. if you can take an aerobics class that'll take your mind off of things for a little while too.

    good luck

Hi, ive been on these pills for 2 years and now im on the highest dose. ive had loads of aide affects. never vertigo though and ita not one ive heard of. you will experience these generally everytime you change your dose so not sure if youve changed this at all during the 6 weeks.

i remember when i forst started the side affects were awful and i started taking mine at approx 5pm each evening so the majority of the side affects would happen whilst i was sleeping. you could experiment with this.

o would get the vertigo checked out as this could be something in isolation x

Hi Kerry, do you or anyone else ever get side effects when you feel like you are overmedicated, lovely feeling in brain but too much when you are at work etc...i definitely experience upper side effects as well as lower sider effects (sweating, terror, cold brain and body etc). I've never experienced Serotonin Syndrome but sometimes feel that i'm getting close. My issue is i am on a combination of Mirt and Sert after Sert pooped out after working for 16 years.

Psych has advised me to stay on current dose of 30 Mirt before bed and 150 Sert morning for next 3 months to see if it levels out. I am experiencing shifts between low's and high's on a daily basis and sometimes in the same day. Just got to stick with it but was interested to hear if anyone else gets that serotonin soaked feeling. I much prefer it to the low anxiety but it can be alarming especially when you are trying to concentrate at work. I know when i'm about to feel the high's as there is a pressure feeling in my brain for a few hours before the serotonin kicks in..

Sarahbia, sorry to hear you are struggling.

I too have the insomnia. Do you sleep at all? Im only on day 12 (5 at 75mg) and have had up to 3 nights of no sleep.

I wish there was some way of knowing what exact dose to take to make it work.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling very good.

I am week 7 on 50mg, although I have dropped back to 25mg now as I have had awful stomach upsets and a constant ringing in my ears. I have had my ears checked and they are fine. I have had a stool sample and it's clear. I can only put it down to the Sertraline. So I am going to come for them. The stomach upsets are awful and I can't leave the house without worrying i'll need to dash for a loo! I'm scared to try a new medication in case I get ill again! I need something though but it's a vicious circle! Maybe you could try another medication?

I was on them 9 weeks had to come off them made the anxiety worse and worse, as someone else said I would get the vertigo checked in case something else, got bit dizzyness and headaches for first couple weeks but not migraines. I'm on citalopram now , as sertralines really weren't tablets for me

Hi sarah I was on sertraline 50mg for 5+ weeks my side effects got worse not better so seem my doc and he told me to come off them its been 4 days now and I still feel very bad - upsets stomach - indigestion - acid reflux - sweats - panick attacks - aches like having flue - breathless alot of the time even doing routine things is a challenge atm - no appetite lost about 7kgs - I was hoping this medication would improve things for me but I guess its not the one for me.

Hope you feel better soon if not see your doc and try another med as some are more suited to people than others cheers Mark
