Still feel unwell after Helicobacter Pylori Treatment

Hi,

I had symptoms for about 2 months, nausea and upper abdominal gwaning feeling, plus appetite affected and had waves in the day feeling generally unwell , I think it was brought on due to a stressful situation. I went to the doctors and tested positive for helicobacter pylori. I have completed the 7 day treatment (Triple Therapy.) I was on 400mg Metronidazole 3 times a day, Amoxicillin 500mg 3 times a day and Omeprazole 2 times a day. I've been off the medication for about 11 days. I have waves of extreme tiredness, abit sickly feeling, sick upper abdominal feeling, tounge doesn't look right, been given thrush treatment for this. And also I have waves of soreness and swelling feeling in the upper stomach. I have lost a bit of weight, a few pounds. I have been off work for a month in total and am wondering if I will ever get my health back?

I take probiotic tablets, Manuka honey, peppermint tea, abit of yoga, walking, plain foods. But admittedly at times I do feel a little bit destressed when I have waves of not feeling so good. Everyday is a battle at the moment. Plus when I go to the loo, last week my stools were acidic, this week a slight improvement, but not normal. The doctor just said they can retest in another 3 weeks. But sometimes I feel so ill.

Any advice in a positive way forward?

hey everyone long post alert , I have been suffering for quite a while with catarrh and sometimes when I fall off to sleep I wake up 10 minutes later thinking I was choking, it got worse the last few weeks so I went to the GP 3 weeks today and she gave me blood tests and stool test , on the following Tuesday day I started to feel quite unwell and at 3 in the morning I felt so ill I rang 111 and actually thought I was dying but they told me I was probably having an anxiety attack my sister came down in the morning she took me back to her house and I ended up in A&E had chest x-ray because I said I felt as if there was something stuck halfway down and just felt really sick &unwell , my blood tests were normal the x-ray was normal the only thing I had a slightly high temperature and I came home I was slightly better but the following night on the Thursday evening I started having another Attack of thinking I was going to die and I saw two doctors and they both told me it was anxiety a week today the stool test came back as positive for helicobacter , I have finished a week of antibiotics today I was also taking a PPI but was advised to stop taking it as my stomach like a balloon and was really painful I only took them for 3 or 4 days and stop them and my stomach wasn't so swollen but now it's very sensitive and burning and I am totally exhausted, back in may I had sickness & diarrhoea for about 3 days which I thought was a bug I also had an awful rush on my stomach the doctor seems to think it wasnt connected but looking back I think that was the start of it, so basically the reason I went to my Gp in the first place was because of my cattah ,I had no stomach issues at all so I was slightly gobsmacked to find out I had this but relieved that I'm not going mad , I thought I was having a breakdown, so I finished the antibiotics &its only now that my stomach is bad , I'm assuming it's because of the drugs , I'm crossing my fingers that il be lucky & I wont have to suffer too long with this , all the way in 54 or I am pretty fit I Run 3 or 4 times a week cycle three or 4 times a week I was two men but I find I can't tell you the chlorine so that may have something to do with it it and I actually Run in a tough 10k race 2 days before I went i went Iill , has anyone else not had bad stomach issues before they found out they had this ?

sounds like a lot like me. My symptoms started off with horrible panic attacks. i have been to ER countless times, only to be told my labs and heart is normal. i then began having very bad abdominal pains. Constipation or diarrhea , as well as hemorriods, sore throat from acid , trouble swallowing, headaches, fast heart rate, low blood pressures, fatigue, itchy skin , belching like 30 times a day and i lost 35 lbs from sept until now. 5 months i have been dealing with is. Finally i was to get a upper and lower scope which revealed gastritis and esphogitis from H pylori. i just finished my second course of antibiotics and my energy levels have got better, my heart rate has settles as well. i still have the abdominal pain and headaches and dizzy feeling sometimes but its been almost two weeks so i can imagine my stomach is still inflamed from so much damage. i am taking probitics and camolille tea, i TRY and watch what i eat. Hoping ill continue to feel better .

hi there, im still on prazaloc 40 for 6 months now . pylori was just an infection on the ulcer . the issue is what caused the ulcer ? so now Im sheduled to go for further tests ☹. guess all we can do is keep trying everyday . all the doctors do is treat the symptoms. Im trying to find the cause root.

      Hi Jean.

I was wandering if the Doctors told you that h pylori was an infection of the ulcer?

It was previously thought that stomach ulcers were caused due to stress, alcohol abuse, smoking etc. However, there are many research studies which now agree that h pylori is the main cause of stomach ulcers!

So my answer to your question is that h pylori has caused your stomach ulcer.

Thanks for replying. I have good days and bad, some days I get this burning pain in my stomach. Yes they keep saying Gerd and want to give me Lanzaprozole but that doesn't help. I also get these lightheaded feeling most days. Have you tried manuka honey? I have been having that, makes a slight difference I think. Have you done endoscopy?

      absolutely same here

I have been taking lanzaprosole for a year every day, no indigestion but pressure is still there

I had endoscopy a good few years ago and all was fine

      they won't so it again

just said it's aftermath of h- pylori and GERD and anxiety 😦 😞

that it just get on with it

It is so annoying when they don't take it seriously as they don't know what we are really experiencing. As I type I have this burning sensation in tummy and back. You seems to be suffering for years now. I do hope you get some relief. Have you made any change to your diet? I have cut out sugar, coffee, grease and have lots of veg. I also drink about 300ml of Kefir per day which may have helped. I have also been drinking three cups of tumeric, ginger, thyme and garlic daily along with cranberry juice. The gnawing pain I'd have daily isn't there anymore so maybe those are helping. It seems its along road back but yet to hear from someone who actually recovered fully

thank you so much for ur reply

I was trying to text u privately, won't let me

how long did it took u to see some improvement?

u tried manuca honey, kefir ,prebiotic, ceder oil , seams like do not make much of a difference .

a years ago ,when I had my endoscopy , they said my sphincter is loose , not as tight as ot should be , so it let's acid to go back up , and there is nothing they could do about it .

regarding hpylari it took me 2 loads of antibiotics to eventually to get rid of it 😭

it have been hard 16 month, can't really be my self.

if its not pressure it's burning feeling right threw to my back or bloating or now this cough, tight chest sometimes , seams like sternum not right , all of this on and off .

I m only 40 should be enjoying my life without this 😦 😞 xx

It took a good 3 weeks on that to feel better. This week though the burning sensation in my tummy is there and sometimes move to all parts of my body. My endoscopy they said everything was fine other than the bacteria they found. The acid reflux is doing me really bad but i do exercise as a means to help. They claim losing weight should help the sphincter close up. I had a cough as well but i notice it's gone since I've been drinking those things. We just need a formula to get back to our usual selves. My only saving grace is it doesn't stop me from sleeping
