Still feeling pain from pulmonary embolism

I’m only 25 years old and was diagnosed with 3 small PEs back in December. I had a fourth one on January 24th even though I was on blood thinners. I guess my question is... is it normal to go from feeling completely fine to feeling like you have a new clot in a matter of a day? I’ve been having pressure and pain in my chest on the left side under my breast, shortness of breath and back pain. It seems to worsen as the day goes on. I’ve been to the ER so many times paranoid I have a new blood clot and don’t want any more CTs done. Does anyone else experience this? Is it normal to have this reoccurring pain and discomfort?

Yes you can have recurring pain. Does not always mean you have a new clot. It is rear to have another clot on thinners but it does happen. What did your doctor say?

My PCP honestly had no idea what to say to me. I don’t think he has much experience with this. My biggest frustration is just not knowing when to go to the ER or what is just reoccurring pain. It’s very stressful and weighs on my mind constantly that something more is wrong.

    Hi Nicole,

Although there is residual pain sometimes, the pain from a PE, plus the shortness of breath is unique, and from what you're describing, I think it's best to have it checked out. That the pain is getting worse, rather than better, means you need to be seen. PEs are life threatening and better to be safe than sorry. Go to ER. Don't give it a second thought. I've been to ER 3 times in one month with my doctor's urging. Hugs to you.
