Do I need to see the GP again?

You have done nothing wrong.   Usually people are given trimethoprim as a first tablet and quite frequently it doesn't work.    You just need a stronger antibiotic.   As you have already had a urine test,  you should phone the Doctor's surgery and  tell them what has happened.     They will advise you what to do next.    It could be they will speak to Doctor and arrange for him to leave a prescription for you to pick up or they may get the Doctor to phone you, or say you need to see him.

On the occasions it didn't work for me I've then been given another antibiotic for 5 days.  When that still didn't work I got a stronger one for another 5 days.

Remember to keep drinking a lot of water to try and flush infection out, but you probably will need another antibiotic.

Good luck.  Hopefully you will be fixed soon as you have been tested and do have a UTI which should respond to antibiotics.

For the only UTI I've ever had, they put me on a 10 day treatment.  The doctor started me immediately, and had lab tests run in parallel.  By day 3, the results showed that the antibiotic would be effective for the organism in my bladder.

It sounds as if the antibiotics are beginning to work.    If you are not in any pain and feel normal, without any symptoms, when you wake up tomorrow then I don't think you need to do anything more.

Obviously if you are in pain and things aren't quite right then there will still be some infection remaining and the Doctor will probably want to do another urine test and give you more antibiotics.   It definitely sounds as if the infection is on its way out.     Carry on drinking lots of water to help flush it out.

I'm so glad you are feeling better.

I'm so sorry to hear you are having problems again but as i'm sure many women will tell you, it's not surprising.  We all seem to have trouble clearing up urine problems.   It sounds as if your infection has not quite cleared.

I would presume the reason you are so desperate in the morning is because you have been asleep and not been to the toilet and your bladder will be full.  Normally this isn't a problem, i'm sure everyone visits the bathroom as soon as they wake up but with an infection things are more urgent which is what you are finding.

I have to recommend you go to the Doctor.  If you have a sample bottle take a urine sample with you to be tested.   If not i'm positive the Doctor will ask you to do a urine sample.    I'm also pretty sure he will give you stronger antibiotics.

Let me know how you get on.   I've been at Doctors and hospital this year with urine problems and i'm about 85% fixed.   Mine is more difficult to diagnose because all my tests are clear.

      Take care.

I feel a visit to the doctor is advisable, because of the new symptoms.

It is also wise to make them aware that, perhaps the antibiotic you were given does not fully get rid of the bacteria - and that is actually very important. You should have no pain at th end of your antibiotic treatment.

So, off to the doctor is my advice.

Make sure you're drinking enough water, around 64 oz/day +/- a bit.  Not drinking enough can cause dark urine and lead to infection, according to some sources.

I have had a similar occurrence hereby the pain got less, but then returned after two days. So, I suggest, that you give it a day or two longer. If by that time normality has set in, I think you are clear - and that's what I hope for you !! All the best.

Your doctor should send a samle of your urine to the laboratory where they will test it and recomend a specific antibiotic for that infection.

I have many UTIs over the last few months and every time the results come back with a different antibiotic. Finally I was given Fosfomycin 3g, 1 for 3 alternate days. That was 22 June and I have been Infection free since.

      Hi Ava,

I still say, don't hang about too much, go to the doctor if it does not clear up. It's time well spent usually and you make sure that it's properly investigated and if you hav% beef given the wrong antibiotic for you, then doctor can correct that by giving you anoither one. One way or the other, you NEED to clear the infection up properly rather than leave it to chance.

That's my heartfelt advice, Ava !
