Still limping and having pain in thigh a year after THR surgery.

I was told that I would have to repeat surgery as the prosthetic stem isn't adhering to the bone inside my leg.  This is so gut wrenching.  Has this happened to anyone else out there?  And how have you coped. I think I will get a second opinion but it does make sense this is the reason I am not healing.

    Hi Ann,

Sorry to hear you may have to have a re-do.

I'm currently addressing the same issue after 5 years.

Had tons of physical therapy, etc. when in fact the initial surgery was just messed up. Doctor also made leg too short and I thought that was the problem, but it wasn't.

For me, I'm just sucking it up and doing whatever it is I have to do the get through it and maybe the future will be brighter.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Oh Pat, I'm so sorry you have had to deal with this for 5 whole years!

?All that therapy for nothing.  I will keep you posted on what I find out.  I don't think we have much choice but to have the darn thing done again.  The option is limping around for the rest of our lives.  I'm tired of thinking about my leg all the time and having to second guess if I can manage an activity or not.  I am right back where I started.

Sorry to be a misery!  Stay in touch!

      Love, Ann

Ask them to do a straight xray, that will show calcification, that's enough to be able to see bone growth.

      Hi Alexandria!

Do you mean a regular xray?  I did have one done and you could see some space around the stem.

Hi yes that's what i meant, I'm not sure if that means you have some healing or zero, at what stage did you have xray?

Hi! Had x-ray at what was supposed to be my last appointment, so a year after surgery.

I am one year post THR and now I have pain. My cut is in front of my right leg and now suddenly I can't sleep on my hip or turn over. When I get up to walk because of previous pain and now this I'm limping for a couple of mins. Once I get going I can walk with no problems. It doesn't ache, only certain movements or turning over. Pain is quite high up in the front, between groin and hip bone. I've not had any X-rays since my op. Anyone else had this?

So sorry you are in pain.  I have to be careful when I turn over onto op side but once I'm there it's okay.  I so know what you mean "once I get going I can walk".  Shouldn't we be able to bounce up and just go like we used to?  So disappointed with results.  Have my 2nd opinion tomorrow as to whether I have to make a decision on revision surgery.

    Ann,

I am so sorry to hear this, I can not agree with other posters more. Definitely before doing anything else get a second opinion from a recommended revision surgeon. They may well have a very different explanation - and you can feel content that you have the right advice and solution.

I am so sorry you are still in pain, this must be so difficult to deal with, Annie K has been an amazing source of support and information on here, do keep in contact with her, she is fountain all knowledge.

Keep us all updated on your progress. Big hugs.

hi..I had TRHR September 2015.  Almost 16 months now and still limping and pain at the scar site. I saw my surgeon in December and again Yesterday 9/1/17. h e has now suggested to have Steroid Injection in the right hip as the Muscles is so week and had got worse after such invasive surgery. I am now going to Private PT and lady says I should get a second opinion. When I rub a Knuckle Baller over the outside of my right hip it is very sore. press a finger into the muscle ans very painful...so it is not the Hip Replacement ..it is the surronding muscles....There was nothing wrong with my muscles before surgery..just a worn out hip!!..not sure whether to go ahead with the Steriod injection, which the Surgeon said he will personally do it under X-ray...I have done some research and Steroid injetion can possible make it worse!!...confused now. I am 67 and have always been very active...I own a very busy Cattery.
