Im 8 weeks out now, and find i limp as well and feel really unsteady when i first get up from sitting down.I dont use my crutches indoors now but still use one when venturing out as a safety net.

You sound about the same as I was at 8 wks. At 4 months I can do most anything again. I sleep without pillows between my legs and can sleep on both sides. I have started taking an exercise class and can keep up pretty well. I walk 4 to 5 miles afew times a week and do pilates. My only issue is still the limping when I first stand. But it should improve and could be a lot worse. Good luck with your recovery!

Did you do pilates before your THR?  It was suggested to me after my operation and has been such a help in getting the muscles around the hip working properly again!  In addition the breathing exercises have helped to relax muscles and have definitely moved my recovery along.

Yes this is normal. I am 8 weeks out and still limp. Had one hip done in April and walked without limp at 3 months. The other hip end of July. Wish i would have done it sooner. No more pain...just zips and zings ☺

"zips and zings" I like that .... I am two weeks out -- bilateral hip replacement... not limping (but still have one more week on the walker ...smile)  One leg feels weaker and a bit slower healing than the other.... this was the "good" leg so I am wondering if it is more that the muscles that compensated to allow me to walk for so many years are 'complaining' a bit....... good to read all your posts, feeling a bit more normal smile

I had my op 4 months ago and still walking with a stick when walking any distance, if I don't use it I limp, I go back to phisio tomorrow, I do all the exersices I've been given but it doesn't seem to make any difference, I know people heal at different rates but it's very frustrating,

Six weeks is still pretty early to worry as your muscles will still be weak, your legs may be swollen and you have to adjust to your new gait. If you've had your six week check and no one has mentioned any leg length discrepancy I don't think you should worry too much. Even if your leg is slightly longer or shorter it'll quite likely right itself in a few months. My surgeon told me to wait four to six months for most healing to take place. Big surgery takes time to overcome!

Amnesia is right, just because you can walk fairly well after a couple months doesn'[t mean that you are fully recovered. Your leg/hip has undergone major trauma and needs more time to fully recover.. If you still have these problems after six months, then you can start to worry.

I agree with the others.....it's early,  be patient.  I'm 9 weeks, walk without a cane

but still have some discomfort when I first get up from sitting and take the first step.

I have a massage every week and that really helps with the scar tissue.  I do my

excercises every morning and walk, walk, walk.  The more you move the faster

your recovery will be.  You'll be okey--listen to your body and keep moving.
