Hi Martin,
I have been on 150mg for 5&1/2 weeks and have made some improvements. Eating and sleeping better but anxiety still there. Also having really bad days but it is slowly getting better.
I think once your on the correct dose everyday will be slightly better until your back to your old self.
I know how disheartening it is. I’m there at the moment, but stay strong and keep going.
I’m here if you need to ask anything x

Hi Martin
I've been taking 50mg of sertraline for almost six weeks. I also had bad side effects and although not completely gone, they are much better.
I've got about 10% relief from depression but my anxiety is increased. It's difficult for me to gauge whether sertraline is working for me as the run up to Christmas is proving quite stressful and also, other circumstances beyond my control are very stressful. So I don't know whether my increased stress levels are counteracting the meds.
My plan is to continue on 50mg until the first week of January, when I see my doctor again. Let the present stress levels subside - by then I will have been taking the meds for eight weeks. It's supposed to have kicked in by then. If no improvement I will ask to go up to 75mg, I don't want more side effects over Christmas. I sympathise with you because it's not easy (an understatement!) to wait for them to take effect while still feeling side effects, physical or emotional.
I read the threads here and they are mostly encouraging. Some say it takes a while, and gradual increases in dose before you feel better. Some have taken three months to get there. Patience - not the easiest when you experience the side effects and don't feel good emotionally.
I am encouraged by a couple of mentions I have seen that the worse the side effects are, the more effective the drug will be for you in the long term. It means your body is responding to the drug apparently. Also, that on day 12 I had a great day, so it's doing something - I hang on to that during this time when nothing can be done but keep taking the meds.
Good luck and can you keep posting and let us know how you progress?
