Still ongoing pain..

Ok, brief recap... had Inguinal hernia repair in 2015 with Mesh Plug - whatever that is, had horrendous pain for first few days, so much so I was kept in hospital for 3 nights. Went home to recover and seemed to be ok apart from slight tenderness and pulling sensation when I bent forward. Now in Sept 2017 started with dull groin ache/stabbing pain... gradually gone worse & worse and am now struggling to even sit down for 15 mins before horrible pain deep in left buttock and that whole groin area hurting. I've had Ultrasound & MRI and the surgeon states he can't see anything and is sending me to pain clinic. He's just fobbing me off and hasn't once acknowledged it might be 'mesh' related or nerve related. I'm now in communication with his secretary & the hospital records dept to find out what mesh was used.. but I'm getting nowhere.. they're just saying it was a 'mesh plug' that's what's on my records. My own GP has faxed letter to Pain clinic to get me moved up list... I've been in pain since last September and I'm only just at this stage of going on list, there's an 18 week waiting list... I can't wait that long, so fingers crossed my appt arrives soon. In regards to my mesh plug is there any other way to find out what was used??

    Sorry you’re still having issues.

I recall a discussion on here about having diagnostic injections to determine whether the pain is ideed coming from scar tissue around the mesh that could be bothering a nerve...if I find it I’ll post back but I believe the specialist that does these is in London (and private of course...).

    Good luck in the meantime

Thanks David... I'm hoping that's what they're going to do with me... at least my GP has given me more medication to try and also faxed a letter to hospital urging them to give me a speedier appointment... so hopefully I'll be sorted soon.. 👍🏻

Hi, I cannot suggest what your problem is BUT I do suggest you ask your GP to prescribe a low dose of http://painconcern.org.uk/amitriptyline/ to control the pain - I use this and believe me it works.  It is an antidepressant at high doses but, at low doses it is good for pain control.

Hi GR..Thanks for the response... I've been on Amitriptyline for about 2 months now... but not made any difference.... I've been back today and he's given me Topiramate 25mg to try... he has also faxed a letter to the hospital pain clinic urging them to speed up my appointment... so fingers crossed...🤞

Also, for a couple of years I have had deep massage over the area of the repair to keep the mesh mobile and to stop it digging deeper into surrounding tissue. This is not pleasant but I am fairly sure that it has helped significantly.  I gave up on surgeons some years ago!!!!

I think sooner I get to the pain clinic & they can check it properly I might get somewhere... it's the pain deep inside my bottom I can't cope with, I can't sit down for more than 20 mins... it's like a dull stabbing pain... it's driving me nuts... the only relief I get is lying down... so it's definitely pressure on a nerve somewhere down there... I read someone complaining about Pundendal nerve pain.. and that describes it exactly...
