Still Reducing (slowly!!)

Well, for all the panic going on in my life - mostly down to Grandson Jake and his eventful life  - I'm still managing to reduce, albeit very slowly. I'd whistled down to 2.5mgs with few problems :run: before his big op, went back up to 5mgs and stayed there for 3 months on the advice of many people on this site who'd had a flare-up. Now I've just taken about 9 weeks to get down to 4.5mgs. My aches and pains today are due to sitting by a Hospital bed for a few days so I know they'll go away after a couple of easy days. I'm thinking maybe I should stay on 4.5mgs for a few weeks - any thoughts on this? I'm in no rush, although it would be good to get back down to 2.5mgs as I know I was OK on that dose before, feeling really quite well most of the time :magic: . Shattered today (for those not on the other site, Jake was rushed back into Hospital in the week so I have been sitting in a hard chair for a while). Nice settee with my feet up and the DVD of the Kings' Speech coming up in a few minutes :tea: :cupcake: !

Take care everyone, have a good weekend,

Lizzie Ellen xxx

Having done 3 months back at 5, and as you feel so well, then 4.0 looks promising....BUT perhaps not 'til you have got over the present tiredness/stress caused by poor Jake's sudden admission (so glad to hear he's doing well :ok: ).

Like me, you've taken quite a lengthy time to reduce by half a mg (I used to take about 8 weeks and then stay there for a couple of weeks). I feel sure that as you've been down as far as 2.5 previously, it should be even easier for you to reach that again (everything crossed!) and, after all, that 'blip' did appear to follow the stress of Jake's surgery.

Enjoy the DVD (and the cake! :donut: ) - I haven't seen The King's Speech (hubby was interested!) so I'll get the DVD sometime too.

A smooth journey to zero now, Lizzie! :magic:

Have enjoyed my 'afternoon off' with my feet up (plus easy cold meat dinner tonight). Strongly recommend The Kings' Speech, brilliant film. Saw it when it first came out and couldn't stop myself jumping up and clapping at the end  Fortunately there were lots of 'oldies' there so I wasn't alone in my enthusiasm. I have to admit to having a crush on Colin Firth. He went to Barton Peveril school in Eastleigh which was literally at the bottom of our garden. My daughters call him the pensioner's crumpet, cheek of it.

    Hi Lizzie

Hope you feel better after your TLC day yesterday (no doubt looking at Colin Firth helped - think you might be joining a very long queue  ). Will definitely get the DVD.Typing error: meant to say hubby [i:7d2141993e]wasn't [/i:7d2141993e] interested in seeing the film (he, too, had a bad stammer years ago :?: ). We're off to see South Pacific at The Barbican in a couple of weeks - it's had some very good Press so looking forward to that. Then Mama Mia (the show) next month - three of us 'girls' (one in celebration of her 70th) so just might be jigging in the aisles!

Shouldn't be on here - late up this morning so all behind (went to a friend's 70th birthday party last night - had a fantastic evening. Can't believe my circle of 'old' friends are all reaching their 70th........nor that mine's looming

    Hi Lizzie-Ellen & all,

So sorrry to hear that Jake ended up back in hospital  . I hope he is back on the road to recovery again now and not giving you any more sleepless nights.

I just came back late last night from the new apartment in Spain and have a bit of catching up to do as I didn't bring a laptop with me on the trip.

We LOVE our new place....the weather was fantastic and my whole body was reasonably pain free in the lovely sunshine 8) :D

Sadly, I woke this morning feeling like I'd been hit by a bulldozer again  ....cold , wet Ireland obviously does NOT suit me  .

I plan to go out again mid-October after I get a few appointments etc sorted out here. My special blood test before starting on my new R.A injections has to be repeated as the last one was \"inconclusive\", so that has put treatment back about two weeks which is a nuisance, but better safe than sorry.

I hope everyone else is keeping well....will eventually get back up to speed with what has been happening to all of you.

    Love to all,

    Pauline.

So pleased you had a good time in Spain Pauline :magic: . We were supposed to be going tomorrow for a week but it didn't quite work out :x ! I always feel better when I've been in the sun, I lay out in our courtyard and can almost feel my body relaxing and the aches and pains going away. If you're in a position to spend more time in your lovely new home - then do it! I often feel a bit bruised and battered when I get back but I think that's a lot to do with the journey, the tidying up required before we leave Spain and the let down of the holiday being over. However, when we got back this year it was straight back into beautiful English weather and for the first three weeks back I felt great, so maybe the weather has a far bigger influence on us than we realize. Just off to see Jake, he's home and seems fine, but yet another week or two off school. Quite worrying as its his last year and has GCSE's to sit in a few months. He's just phoned to say he's checking his own blood sugars! He loves seeing the machine register the result and hearing the bleep - daft boy, still, better that he's happy to puncture his fingers a few times a day than start screaming everytime Mum comes near!! Its the first time they've worried about his blood sugars, please, not another problem!! BTW It was nothing to do with his heart this time thank goodness. I love the thought of spending December, January and February in Spain Mrs. K 8) . I think that's what we'll be doing in a year or so, once we get my stepdaughter settled

    Take care.

LizzieEllen - please do consider that 5mg may be the longer term maintenance dose you need to keep the PMR under control. If every time you go below it the symptoms come back it probably means the disease process is still there and that's what you need. Don't force the issue - I got a real flare for trying that at a higher dose than that.

I hear what you're saying Eileen. As my 'flare' seemed to be in direct response to Jake's op I'm going to give reducing a try. I seem to be fine on 4.5mgs so going to stay there for a while. However I'm not going to swop feeling well with being on a low or nil steroid dose. Next time I find a reduction difficult I think I'll just stay on the previous one (does that make sense? ).
