still tired after pneumonia

Posted , 7 users are following.

3 weeks ago my Dr diagnosed pneumonia. 1 week on amoxycillin, 2 weeks on clarithromycin, the 2nd week of those I also took 1

Week of prednisolone ..I feel much better in myself, no cough or mucus, fever gone but I am exhausted, still a bit "out of puff" and not sleeping very well ...bit anxious, I think due to the steroids?

Does this sound normal. Never had this before? Hope someone

can advise?

    Hi bev

This is totally normal. I was in hospital for my 2nd bout of pneumonia 7 weeks ago as although I am now off my steds n antibiotics I still get wiped out at the end of the day. It' a long process as ur body has been battered. After coming out of hospital, I devolved a new infection on my other lung which was early pnuemonia but i caught it just ok time was was out on more tabs. Don't be worrying about it taking so long as it will do!!

Take care and get well soon!!

I had real trouble getting to sleep when first taking steroids. I used to have the birds starting to sing before getting to sleep sometimes. Steroids have an enormous amount of side effects.

I hear the birds start to sing every morning, think that's why

I'm so tired. The more I try to sleep the more anxious I become.

      Vicious circle!

Hi sorry to hear you've been so poorly ,

i have had pneumonia several times even though I've had the vaccination ,

I found the amoxicillin 500 didn't help ,but a course of steroids and clarithamycin did the job, but I was told by the copd nurse who takes care of me as and when needed ,,,,that it can take up to six months to recover from pneumonia  ,but you will recover that's the main thing ,but perhaps a good idea to be refered to pulmary rehab,,,,,when your feeling stronger of course.

    speedy recovery
