Hi Marie, other causes of high ferritin are fatty liver, alcohol, inflammation, infection, malignancy.  Fatty liver is very common.  You could ask for a CT scan to check on that situation.

Apart from alcohol, fatty liver is caused by the consumption of sugars and starches (not fats).  I have had 2 ladies in my haemochromatosis group who were heterozygous, therefore should not be loading iron because of their genes.  They reduced their consumption of sugars and starches and their ferritin levels dropped dramatically.
