Still waking up feeling nauseous every morning 16 days after surgery.

I was hoping I would feel better as time goes on im 16 days post surgery, but I'm still feeling nauseous in the morning and pain in my intestines. I'm eating no fat and still feel rough.

Can this just take me longer to adjust or should i look into having my stomach looked at. I'm a 43 year old male I do have sensitive stomach always have, but this is something that has me out of work for at least 2 more weeks and for what I do I can't work feeling like this.

If you're concerned at all about your symptoms or pain you should see your doctor. Everyone is different so other experiences may not be yours. There is no one size fits all sadly.

How often and what are you eating?

My experience is that little and often I found helped both before and immediately after removal as did increasing my fresh fruit and vegetable intake along with brown seeded bread.

I kept my diet normal including fat following the advice given by my consultant. The liver still produces the bile needed to breakdown fat after surgery the breakdown is done in the intestine as opposed to the stomach and "good" fat is part of a normal diet.

High sugar foods are the only foods I've had problems with since surgery and low fat often means high sugar.

Peppermint capsules work for me for settling the stomach reducing wind levels and bloat. For the nausea see your doctor prescription anti nausea was a lifesaver for me for 2 years.

    Best wishes

Hi, thanks for the reply yes I'm eating bland like toast, banana, apples and rice at the moment with some eggs and grilled chicken mixed in for protein. It's the mornings that are the worst. As the day goes on it gets better not great, but better.

I agree everyone is different and I may just take longer. I'm just over 2 weeks post OP. and surgeon said it could be 4 to 6 weeks before body adjust.

Just a little anxiety here this is new my first surgery and im a little on edge I guess. I'm a very athletic person and I'm home for the last 2 weeks feeling bad. Thanks again for the reply

Don’t forget it’s major surgery and you’ve had an organ removed. I was off work 6-8 weeks (manual job for 12 hours on my feet). I still get nausea 10 months later but not as bad as it was. Can eat some more fat in food but was told I’d have to watch what I eat forever more xx

      Hi Scottie,

Thanks for the reply, did you take anything for nausea? The cramping in my intestines is the other problem. I I have lost at least 10lbs, which is understandable since I can't have fatty foods and eating bland foods. My job requires the same for 8 hours a day and in the sun half the day.

      Hoping it gets better soon.

Yeah ive taken cyclizine, prochlorperazine and ondansetron on and off since the gallbladder started playing up. And also buscopan cramps for the stomach pains too. You can buy these in chemist but if they help can get on prescription from GP as get a much bigger pack. Try not to overdo it or you’ll take longer to heal! xx
