Stinging/irritation when weeing after a cleared uti

Hi everyone bare with me while I explain everything! I got a UTI when I was 17, I had blood and white blood cells in my urine, extremely painful burning etc, when I had the infection I was given two courses of antibiotics and they tested my urine after this, it was clear after these antibiotics but I still had symptoms of burning/irritation after I had had a wee. They then sent me for an sti check which came back all clear, they then gave me cream for thrush and other infections which was no help at all, I then went back and they had done loads of blood tests checking me for diabetes and celiac disease and many more...all negative. Then they gave me a drug called Buscapan (along those lines) which was a muscle relaxer which made the symptoms worse and caused nausea etc so that was stopped. He then referred me to a gyny who did a scan, I had a stiff and tilted uterus but bladder and kidneys normal! So they then sent me to see their best urologist, he told me he wanted to do a cystoscopy and a urethral dilitation under general anaesthetic, nothing abnormal was found from the cystoscopy so no chances of interstitial cystitis etc but my urethra was quite tight, however after initial relief the symptoms came back in less than three days. I'm only 18 and I'm just about to go off to uni it is an absolute nightmare and hurts mainly after sex and after weeing in general. I am booked in for a follow up appointment at the end of this month and am not looking forward to more tests. I do not drink tea or coffee, I don't smoke or drink alcohol and have never taken drugs. I am a very healthy and active person aside from this problem. I do not have a frequent urgency to wee which is very very lucky as I can carry on as normal until it comes to weeing or sex which is painful.

I have read on similar forums that changing your toilet paper and shower gels can stop the pain and they can be irritating the urethra, I'm going to try it as when I go for a wee in the morning I feel no pain but then it gets worse throughout the day like it is getting irritated by something. I've also heard about a disorder called vulvadynia which i could maybe look into also.

I am becoming desperate to find a solution for this horrible problem I am having, its been nearly a year now and I'm worried it is going to continue. If you find any relief from using and trying something new please let me know or if you are having similar problems!

I hope you all solve your problems

I am a guy, but, are you drinking ing enough during the day? If it doesn't hurt passing water when your bladder full, (plus most people empty their bladder before sex), it could be more concentrated urine that's causing the pain, (ie your epithelial cells in your urethra and vagina), could be ultra sensitive esp after sex.

    Hope I've helped x

I did go through a stage of drinking a lot after my operation but I haven't been drinking as much recently, I guess I could try drinking more again and keep it up to see if it makes any improvement this time round.

      Thankyou!x

Hi Susan, I have tried cranberry juice in the past and it doesn't seem to make any difference but I shall look into the type without sugar Thankyou!

Hi Katie i really sympathise with you as i to have had two lots of antibiotics, its a sort of better but still feels like its lurking, unlike you im not young and im 65, used to get  these uti  alot in my younger years, with me it was the pill causing a regurlar flare up every month. Drinking just more water will help. Im finding one day not so bad then suddenly its there again the stinging and as you say feels really awful as well. personally i dont think having sex is going to help much either at the moment especially as your finding it painfull which makes me wonder if theres something else causing problems hear for you ir do you mean sex is making the urthra opening painfull?  Pays to not wear nylon underware or use perfumed soaps or bubblebath, are you using pant liners as these sometimes have bleach in them like some toilet papers. I will look up the vulvadynia  now and see what this says.  Hope you get some permament relief soon

Well i suffered for years, then i came off the pill and became pregnant, i actually had an appontment to see a consultant  because if the  severity  of my symptoms, but just like magic as soon as i became pregnant all the symptoms disappeared and stayed away for 9 nine months, could be a hormonal problem with you Katie. As you dont wear pant liners it could be the fabric conditioner in your underwear. Also consider taking probiotics as the ones containg Lactobacillus Rhamnosus has been shown to be highly affective against bacterial vaginosis and also found to inhibit adhesion in the bladder so that bacteria find it hard to attach. If your on the pill you need to take these to counteract damage the pill causes to the gut.

Hi Katie, i've been having problems with UTI for the past 4 years. i googled and found some tips on drinking Vitamin C 1000mg . it didn't take the UTI away completely, but the burning sensation disappeared within 24 hours. I'm not sure if this will help you but it's worth a try. Best of luck!!
