Stitch

I'm nearly 7 weeks post op and have had quite a few soft stitches come away. I have one stitch that I can feel that feels very plastic like and I doubt it will dissolve. When I was discharged I was under the impression that all the stitches would dissolve and I've been examined by my GP who never mentioned it, I should have asked but was more worried about an infection I had . Any one else had this? I have my post op check up Wednesday X

Hi I am 8 weeks and having the same problem I have already had one stitch and knot removed by gyni but theis one is driving me crazy and hurting like hell. I am going to gyni drop in at my local hospital today to see if they can remove it. Also bad hemorrhoids at the moment. Oh the joys hey x

A stitch that feels like plastic is a dissolving stitch so it will dissolve eventually but they can take up to 12 weeks to all completely dissolve. If it becomes a nuisance and causing problems the practice nurse at your GP surgery will clip it to remove it. They do get used to being asked to do this.

I had one like that matron right at postetior outer edge, kept boasting it with shower and kept putting germolene on it , which softened it so as not to irritate me. It must have eventually dissolved. Had forgot about it , have not felt it for a while and bumpy feeling went down last week. Think that's why I felt so good last week. (Just realized that's why)!

Hope I haven't dissolved it too soon it's was one of them white stitch ends that felt like cat gut you use for fishing!

Meant blasting it with shower head!

Don't worry phyllis you did absolutely the right thing and that's great advice. Vaseline won't make a suture dissolve too quickly x

I remember you mentioning the blasting thing and I think I said it was OK as long as you blasted for only a few seconds. Having said that these dissolving sutures are so stubborn sometimes that they do need a bit of help.

Had a bit of a panic there when I remembered , as when I walk a bit to long by my 20 mins that heavy feeling like I've overdone it tends to be more to the back, you feel like your inards are about to fall out! Can't remember it being that horrible but it's a reminder to go at the pelvic floor exercises!

Thank you, have put my mind at rest !

Thanks Matron. I've been for my post op today and the nurse said it will take up to 3 months to dissolve. She also said to massage the area with olive oil as that will help. I was happy to be told everything is healing well xx

Good news Rosiepix. Yes olive oil is as good as Vaseline. Depends what you have at home really.

Hi, I had the same thing, and my GP said it felt like "barbed wire". Saw consultant today. If you have had an SSF, they are NOY dissolving stitches, otherwise op would fail. The consultant had to "trim" mine today. Uncomfortable, but bearable.

Dissolving sutures are used if an SSF is performed

Sorry. Just realised you wrote NOY dissolving stitches. Not sure what they are

Sorry, it should read NOT, dissolvable. Sorry Matron, on this one, have to agree to disagree after what my consultant told me. The stitches that are used to repair the cuts are dissolvable. But the ones used for SSF are not. He explained that these act as anchors to the ligaments and so can not dissolve.  As I said in earlier post, mine had to be trimmed today and I am 15 weeks post op. I could feel mine when I was standing for long periods of time, I couldn't have intercourse as it would have ripped  my hubby to bits 😱. Hopefully, now I can move forward without the dreaded stitches giving my insides a scraping every time I walk ......

Glad you are doing well Rosiepix nice to hear from you. I have been using coconut oil since 6 weeks post op check up and it helps with tightness and stops my stitches from catching, seems to have worked. Good luck xx
