Stitch removal tomorrow afraid

I am having the stitches removed tomorrow it's been 3 weeks with them I really hope I don't go back into another hard cast and I can start light weight bearing in dying to submerge myself in a bath but because I can't put any pressure on the ankle I'm putting it off. I hope the stitch removal is not painful. My ankle is dying to move around too has anyone experienced the leg and ankle really wanting to move around?

Hi Danette,  They will probably put you in a moonboot!  At least it is better than a cast, but you must be patient as it does take time to heal. I have been 14 weeks since break of fibula, walking unaided now but still have a limp and have sciatica from being in boot so receiving treatment. Speak to your specialist about wanting to move your ankle, I was told to do the alphabet with my toes in my boot but suggest you speak to your doctor first.  Give yourself time, I promise it will all be ok, but it is a long process.!  Onwards and upwards xxx

Hi Danette, sorry to hear about you having to join us all in having ankle surgery. Things are not easy are they. I'm 18 weeks in now. Had my stitches out and must say found it really painful. Got told that they had been left in too long and wound had started to grow over the top. Of the stitches so they had to dig dwn to get them out PAINFUL. 😢 😢 Once they were out I went into another cast for 4 Weeks then a boot for another 4. Still using 1 crutch, can walk without with. Bad limp. Still in quite a lot of pain, more some days than others. Swelling down a lot. Elevate every time I'm Sat and at night in bed, do a lot of icing which really helps. I also soak foot in Epson salts in water as hot as I can stand, things loosens it all up and Blend to walk a little better for a while. I really hope it goes well for you. We all have a long haul ahead of us. Good luck. Sx

I got my stitches out two weeks after my trimallelor (sp?) ankle fracture and got surgi strips.  Then the nurse said to take showers no longer than 15 minutes but not to submerge it .  I am not allowed to put any weight or take it out of my boot other than the shower and I am 6 weeks post op.  I might be 7 weeks now .  I lose count.  I go back next wedendsday aug 16 and at that time he will X-ray and I should be ably to start putting weight on it.  Hth

I am 6 wks post op from peroneal tendon surgery with groove deepening, ankle arthroscopy and a cyst removed from second toe. I had staples on the ankle and stitches on the other incisions. Had all of them removed at my 2 wk check up and steri strips were put on. I was put in a cam walking boot but remained non weight bearing until 5 wks post op. Then only allowed to do 25% weight bearing. I started pt as soon as I was put in boot. The stitch and staple removal did not hurt. Only one staple stung a little because it was right behind the ankle where there is little more than skin and bone. Yes my ankle definitely wanted to start moving. During my second wk post op I started having muscle spasms in my toes and ankle that would make my foot jerk and flex even in the splint. I was told by my surgeon that it was probably a combination of lack of movement for so long, needing to drink more water and possibly needing more potassium in my diet.

Good luck with your recovery. Hope all goes well for you.

Hi Danette - I don't know what your injury is. I broke 2 bones in my ankle. Bimalleolar fracture. I had surgery on 7-27-17 , they stapled mine . Got them taken out 8-7-17 . It stung a little but not bad . They did put me in a cast . Just toe bearing for Balance. I go back 9 -1- 27 . If all is well . Boot and full weight bearing I hope you can go into boot and start weight bearing . I send prayers that you do. I am having to resign myself to this , accept it . Take it one day at a time. I really thought I would get boot, start weight bearing and be on my way . It is to soon . I need to be patient and count my blessings. Please let me know what happens

Light, love, peace, Healing to you

Christina - I know that's all I want to. To walk , drive , go back to work. I keep focusing on 9-1-17 when I go back to get cast off. I know I have to get thru today and stop focusing on the future,

It makes me crazy . This forum support. Face book, TV . Are helping. I am in a cast only toe weight bearing. I broke my ankle 7-17-27 , surgery 7-27-27 , follow up 8 -17-27 . I and you have made it this far . We can do it . Thus is not forever . This is temporary. My Partner, the nurse . The doctor all said take care of yourself, keep your foot up . Don't push it or you could cause a setback . I hate this but I am doing what the say. I need to get better . I want to start weight bearing 9-1-17 . I have to keep remembering only temporary. You and I will walk again. We will .

I took a real bath today-- not a shower -- a bath where you soak.  My incisions are healed ... no scabs.  It's been 6 or 7 weeks post op. It was wonderful!  I was able to pull myself up just fine too.  It felt wonderful!!!!  Yay!!!!
