Stomach and sinus problems

Hi everyone,

I am writing in the hope that in sharing my experience I might come across someone with similar problems. A brief run down goes like this; from the age of about thirteen I suffered from crippling stomach cramps, especially after playing football. I put up with it untill I was 22 when I went to the doctor who diagnosed IBS. No IBS treatment has ever helped but the cramps eventually got less and less and in hindsight were made much worse by my dread of them, causing me to tense up. So the stomach cramps became a virtually none existant problem but were slowly replaced by fatigue. Definitley related to my stomach, virtually every time I ate i felt very tired and had to sleep. Now i'm 27 and as of five months ago my sinus has flared up (never a previous problem) leaving it very hard for me to breathe. two months ago I had my adenoids out as they had swollen so much they were pushing against the back of my nasal passages. The consultant didn't know why they had flared up along with all my nasal passages and put it down to an infection that had cleared up. I'm still now left with an inflammed sinus between my eyes and am on antibiotics again and steroids but they don't seem to be working. I've had an endoscopy which showed I had osephigitus (sorry for the spelling!), bleeding in the stomach and a strange lump right on my sphincter which he couldn't do a biopsy on as he was worried it might be a blood vessel. Has anyone ever got a very inflammed sinus as a result of GERD? I get heartburn about once a week and my symptoms are much worse in the morning. Also, I have had lung function tests and they are perfectly normal. It may be also worth mentioning that the symptoms get much worse if I let myself get hugry, everything (my throat and stomach) seems to really tense up and my stomach actually feels like it's getting in the way of my lungs. If anyone has suffered with similar symptoms (sinus inflammation, tense throat, tight stomach) please get in touch. Any advice would be so appreciated. Sorry this is long and muddled but I've had so many tests and so many symptoms I just don't know where to begin with it all. Cheers, phil.

    Hi Phil,

Sorry to hear that you are having a bad time with all the above symptoms.I too have experienced most of your symptoms but not sinus problems.I seem to notice my condition more when I am working out at the gym which results in me fighting for my breath after a brief period of exercise. My advice to you is,go back to your gp and insist on more tests and dont take no for an answer as this can be a long road to your diagnosis.I am five years down the line and I am no nearer to resolving or getting the treatment I need to sort me out. The answer you will probably get is you need to lose weight, limit your food via diet and reduce your stress.I have been told by my consultant that I am young enough to live with the condition and nothing can be done for me,good luck I wish you better luck

    Take care

Cheers for the reply Debs. I think i am going to go down the homeopathic route now. Logically thinking my symptoms must be down to the escaping acid and if the doctors chemicals don't help then maybe there is a herbal answer. I hope i'll find an answer soon as I am a fireman and cannot do my job with breathing problems. I'm on light duties now which is very boring! If only this sinus problem would go, all the other symptoms I get I can cope with, even the cramps, I just get on with it but the sinus is the most debilitating. Feels like every time I breathe my whole face is clenching up. Hey ho, life is not always easy and we only become better through challenges.
