I have just about fully recovered from my Hiatal Hernia symptoms which started beginning of October 2016.
I eat small meals, nothing past 6 pm, No Coffee! No alcohol,no fried foods. Only walking,no strenuous exercise!
I take fiber, and rest. I will say that again. I rest. The area around the Hiatal Hernia needs to heal. I let it heal.
I also did exercises to help the Hernia go down. The doctors don't help in this as they want to prescribe Nexium for GERD which causes more heart issues than Hernia sufferers already experience.
I hope this helps you and send good thoughts for healing.

Hi, I'd be interested to hear what exercises you do. I find walking does tend to make things feel better for a short while.

What does your doctor say? Does he say you need to repair the hernia? This won't go away until you have surgery to fix it. Nothing can be done until you fix it. Your intestines may be strangulating. Doesn't your doctor want to fix the hernia with surgery?
In what country do you live? Take care and have a Merry Christmas.

I have a sliding h hernia which was diagnosed by an endoscopy in 2002. The symptoms come and go depending on what type of activity I do. My doctor sent me to a specialist who said surgery is not always successful so will only go there if needed. I am not overweight, I walk daily and I work in a quite physical job but I will look up the exercises. I've never heard of them. Thank you. Happy New Year. Judy Trend

I have a floating hiatus hernia so I know it's hard to live with. Has your doctor recommended peppermint tea? Take it after meals and in the evening. It helps to relax the gut. Also, I find 2,extra strong peppermints after lunch really helps. I was also advised to sit up straight when I eat which helps food to travel smoothly down the oesophagus. Also, something that really helped me was; don't drink water until at least an hour after eating, and certainly not while your eating. OK... avoid all animal fat (this is just me!!), cakes and sweet biscuits and try to eat only cooked veggies, no raw salad for a while and no chillies or wholemeal bread. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi Anita
I have a h hernia too but what I found caused the bloating and nausea was an intolerance to wheat. This will cause bloating. Also candida can do it too. Acidophilus will help this. If you can go to an allergy clinic they should be able to tell you if you have either of these. Amanda's advice in regard to meals and exercise works well and eating nothing between meals, just water. Also sleeping on 2-3 pillows or a wedge and one pillow helps. Slippery elm helped my heartburn. 1-2 Tbs in a smoothie. Hope this helps. Happy New Year
