Stomach Bug / Flare Up

Hi,

Has anyone else experienced a flare like stomach bug thats got better?

For about a week i have been experiencing some symptoms of a flare but not others.

I've had watery stools but no blood and generally feeling under the weather. Strong stomach pains them an overwhelming sick feeling that lasts about 20 seconds the it goes.

I don't know if this is what would happen because of my UC if i had a bug or not.

Just wondering what to do?

TIA

    Hello,

yes at the moment i am suffering from i think a flare up but this has been two weeks now of water stools and i ended up on a hydration drip four days in hospital at the weekend and steroids. its taking a long time for the water stools to ease. i would definately advise your gastro teams advise of go to hospital as you may be dehydrated. i am sticking to the strict flare diet which is just beige white plain food, white fish, tuna, or lean turkey or chicken with no flavours or skin. bananas, rice krispis with almond milk ( small amount) white toast with smooth peanut butter only. also carrots cooked or blended in a ginger and tumeric smoothie works wonders for the stomach and anti inflammitory along with omega-3. Really hope this helps and you feel better soon. it really is an awful illness isnt it xx

Thanks Lucy. Are you on steroids now?

I have told the gastro nurses but they require 2 stool samples and i am stuggling to get this at work or not going all day then being bad at night.

Also no blood. Are you experiencing blood?

Thanks for your advise. i hope you feel well soon. xx

You are so welcome, i know how lonely it can feel. Yes i did have abit of blood but mainly just water stools. i just took myself to the GP as a priority and asked for a week course of steroids as that always helped me before. I know its hard trying to struggle through and take time off work but honestly your health comes first and you should take the time to do the sample and get the support needed. stay hydrated and mayb try dihrolyte but avoid imodium! it can cause internal issues when the colon is immflammed xxx

Oh lucy. Thats interesting as i have taken immodium this week. I wasn't aware this was not good with UC. Thanks for that advise.

I am waiting for the IBD nurse to come back to me. Its been 2 days now. That can be frustrating. xx

oh yes it can be quite bad so do read online, i have spent so much time reading online these past two weeks and learnt lots i did not know. you can pretty much type any question you want and the main Crohns and UC page is great for further advice but you just need to do what works for you as sadly it is such an individual illness hope they come back to you soon xx

A week's duration could just be a bug but you may wish to go to see your doctor for blood and faecal tests to check inflammation levels. If the signs are there, better to get in front of it and get back on meds to stop things getting worse.
