Hi I've just found this forum.im glad I'm not alone with spleen issues.i had a splenectomy done 7 years ago due to my pancreas swelling and ruptured my spleen. I've seen a few other people with the scars from surgery and they just have a vertical Line down the middle.my scar is a big L shape where it goes horizontal at my belly button? Does anyone else have that kind of scar shape.?also I have a small like tennis ball lump in the middle of my stomach which pushed out more after exercise.i ended up with type 1 diabetes 3 months after the surgery so I've been trying to loose weight. But when i loose weight from my belly I still have a big lump which sticks out in the centre.?I've had cT scans etc and they say they can't see any problems. So what is it.? A hernia?. If anyone else has similar issues please reply.it gets me down every day

Hi Michael,  Your "big" lump sounds like scar tissue to me.  I have a long wide scar going down the middle of my belly from surgery about 12 years ago.  Over that time period any lumps including the stitch "lumps" have flattened out quite a bit and the scar has lost the red discoloration, but it is still noticeable.  No bikini for me!  Remember you had no choice about this surgery.  It was needed or I guess you would have died from a ruptured spleen.  I'd vote for having the lump.  My surgery usually results in a cross the belly scar but my doctor wanted better access and better visual sight so he cut me from my belly button all the way down.  Your doctor would definitely know if you had a hernia or not.  Regarding you diabetes.  That's unusual that you developed type 1 rather than type 2.  My husband has type 2.  Do you have to take insulin shots like the kids that have type 1 from birth?  What ever the case if you are overweight (like my husband) you would benefit tremendously with each pound that you loose.  Really.  The next time you see your doctor tell him that it's nice to know that he can't see that you have any problems BUT you want to know what the lump is NOT what it isn't.  About your exercising, it's great for a lot of things but it's really not a good weight loss tool unless you want to exercise HOURS each day to lose 1/2 lb. in 2 weeks  To lose weight (and help with blood sugar) it's all about what you put into your mouth.  Look up diabetic diets and give yourself small goals.  Good luck.  I hope you get better answers from others.
