Stomach Pains

My Wife has had stomach pains for 3 days. She saw her GP who diagnosed an inflamed stomach but gave her nothing for it. She already takes omezaprole for another issue. She had pains in her stomach and back initially. She's a lot better but for the last two mornings after she has eaten breakfast the pains start again and take all day to fade. The pain doesn't seem to be made worse by subsequent meals. Any ideas would be very welcome.

Hi Clarissa, it seems to be only the first meal of the day that affects her. She can eat normally through the day without issue.

Its not very fun, but she may need to water fast for a day or two to let her stomach calm down (if she has no other conditions that would not make that a problem-aka diabetes). Garlic extract worked well for me for the discomfort, but she can also try gripe water which I found helpful another time I had gastritis. Its the stuff used for cholicy babies. Not sure if youre in the states, but if so, you should find it at a local pharmacy. It was also helpful for me to avoid processed foods, gluten, acidic foods, dairy products, sugary foods, spicy foods, and alcohol. Hope she feels better soon!

Thank you Charcey97. It is weird, it seems to be only the first thing she eats that affects her. she can eat through the day without a problem. She seems delighted that a glass of wine earlier had no effect 😁. Thank you for the advice, we are in the UK but can get gripe water at the Chemist.

hi brian, ooph that doesn't sound pleasant but good old fashioned gaviscon could help, it's worth a shot..... you can get a liquid tablets or dissolvable tablets, whatever she eats keep it bland. good luck, i hope it gets better.

      Hi Sam,

Thank you. She is going to buy some Gaviscon today while at work. The surgery is open again tomorrow so she is going to ring the GP and seek advice.

      Thanks again.

Brian, does your wife have a fry up for breakfast? I am thinking if she has a breakfast high in animal fat eg bacon, fried bread etc those pains may indicate gallstones...especially as you say they are also felt in her back.

Hi Marina, this morning was two grilled pieces of bacon on toast, yesterday was porridge. Thursday she just had two pieces of toast. It seems to hit her first thing and wase through the day.

      Hi leeniepie,

she was told by the doctor to take it just before bed, so that's what she does. She's going to try some Gaviscon tomorrow and see if that helps. She'll speak to her GP on Tuesday and see what they say.
