Hi i know it can be worrying when started a new drug and there are a lot of people on this forum who will agree with me that it affects people differently , and we are all individuals, i have noticed by reading them and my own experience that it this drug does cause dizziness , stomach cramps and bowels problems going to the toilet a lot, but to put your mind at ease i know this is not bowel cancer, it can go on for a while then settle down, but like me it got worse so i came off it, you may have to change your antidepressant , i would go back to your doctor and tell them your concerns, you will get this sorted out if this medicine is no good for you there are other thing you can try, alternate medicine even if this does not work for you there is counselling , that one worked brilliantly for me , hope this puts your mind at ease x

I felt very dizzy even taking 25mg Sertraline and I have been off the drug for 18 days and still feel dizzy. How long did your dizziness last?

I felt anxious on the drug and so it did not help with that either.

I also developed bad diarrhoea which has improved now off the drug.

Hi how long have you been on this drug and what was the strengths , i am only asking because the longer you were on it it will take a bit longer to get out of your system and if you were on a higher dose to start with this can be the cause, to ,but do not worry you have done the right thing for you it wont be long, if it does carry on it might not be the drug with me i can get diarrhoea  when i am anxious, this is all part of our illness, i know once you are you feel you are back to square one, but there is lots of help out there , other options i found them and i am getting great help and are on the road to recovery even going out 3 times this week which i have not done for a very long time,x

    Hi wendy,

I'm in the same boat. I was on 50mg since June 21st up until last Friday when I finally got an appointment with a psychiatrist. She is upping me to 100mg over the next week.

I also have stomach/bowel issues. I have a constant nagging pain from the upper left side of my abdomen (stomach region) down along the left of my lower. Have also had trouble passing stool. Psychiatrist assured me this is due to the sertraline, but due to my health anxiety she said I can go ahead and get it checked out for my own peace of mind. I have also lost weight (4.5kg) but have now stabilised and not lost anymore.

My bowel movements have changed. I use to go one time a day for years. Now its two times and sometimes not at all. Sometimes constipation and sometimes diarrhea. Since taking probiotics i do feel better. Ask your doctor if you can try them. I take one pill a day, if you do get the best kind. It is alittle costly but while worth it.

One of the most common side effects is stomach issues. I had them for at least 2 months. I started taking fiber daily and that seemed to help a lot.
