Stone in kidney nausea

Hi, i'm new to this forum but need to hear from anyone in same boat as me.
I have had flank pain since last november. x-rays and ct scan showed i have a 5mm kidney stone in upper pole . Doc took a wait and see approach.
Since Jan, i have had awful nausea on and off and in March they said the stone is now 9mm
I went on waiting list for lithotripsy, and finally had first one 8 weeks ago just as day procedure and i was awake etc . I was told they partially shattered it but would need to go back again. i went back three weeks ago for second session but they said they couldn't do procedure as i was symptomatic of passing some of the broken part of stone which may be lodged. Same day CT Scan didnt show any particles and i still feel awful. mostly nausea and anxiety feeling, urgency to wee, pressure at end of weeing and flank pain. Doc saying nausea not connected as stone not that big or in ureter. Wants me to go for scope into stomach even though i have no bloating or weight loss or any other symptoms. He's really worried me more now which really doesnt help the nausea! Sometimes the nausea subsides and i feel perfect except for the level 3 flank pain which is not the worst. Anyone else have the nausea so bad while no evidence of passing stone?

How awful of an experience you've had, I'm so sorry. The abrupt stoppage of the second lithotripsy must have been such a disappointment.
My experience with all of my stones ALWAYS included at least some bouts of nausea. For them to say that it's unrelated to the stones is a bit of a stretch. They're stingy now with pain meds because of abuse, but they sure as hell can give you something for the nausea such as Ondanset or Phenegren (sp?). I would demand that at least.
Good luck. I hope you pass everything soon. - Martin

thanks so much. Yes they prescribed ondanset which i am trying to only take if i have to. Have another lithotripsy in 10 days so hoping that blasts it once and for all seeing as it is partially shattered. Its incredible how such a small thing can cause so much grief! Thanks for reply 😉

I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time. the nausea is defiantly part of the symptoms of kidney stones.
I started to get ill in 2012 and I am still having problems.
I had a Staghorn calculi and gone through multiple procedures i.e PCNL etc. Then I had lithotripsy because they believe some debris was left inside the after the procedute and that why the stones have grown back.
Renal colic is the worst pain ever.
Do not let the medical staff fob you off that happened to me , I had a cardiac arrest whilst in surgery because they left me so long suffering. I was constantly in and out of hospital because they kept delaying my procedures which resulted in having sepsis, pancreatitis and jaundice .
I am under three consultants now and go back to hospital in November to find out what happens next as I have loss of kidney function now.
If you dont feel right go to the hospital not your Gp as you will not get any where.
Drink lots of water to flush out your system, tea and coffee is okay in between, avoid fizzy drinks cut down on sugar and salt . Citric drinks effect me so be careful of those types of drinks.
I hope you get better soon.

Wow, you poor thing! I hope this gets sorted for you in November, that all sounds horrendous and it must be having a huge impact on your life.
Yes, whenever I am free from nausea i feel so well so i do think it is the stone but when i am really bad my head starts overthinking and i start freaking myself out. I see so many on this forum who mention it can cause nausea cos of where it is in kidney or how it moves or if its stuck etc so i have to keep telling myself that . lithotripsy 2 is in 10 days so heres hoping. I'm drinking 2 litres water every day and eating like s bird when the nausea there but like a horse when it subsides.
I am so grateful for your reply and will be fingers and toes that they get you and you poor kidney sorted. I will def take your advice and keep shouting until its sorted so thank you ☺

You're welcome and thank you.
Don't over think anything your body will tell you when you need help, the nausea will effect your appetite try jelly when you cant eat it helps and keep strong

I had an 8 mm kidney stone last fall. I had been suffering intense nausea wth chills/shaking in early hours of the morning. Doctors couldnt figure out what it was. The only thing discovered during all my tests was the kidney stone ( still in kidney). Specialist said nausea isnt common and would only cause pain. We arranged a lithotripsy but when I went in to see where it was now the stone was gone! No idea when or how I passed it as I never had pain or blood in urine. A mystery! Wondering if anyone else has had such an experience...
