Stoping diazapam

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have been taking diazapam for 30 years.  At first just occasionally but then it grew I have reduced to 7mgs am 6 lunchtime and 7 mgs evening.  I started taking them for agrophobia, I still get that and cope by taking extra doses.  My GP is aware of all this and is OK with me contunuing but would like me to reduce.  I want to very much but I'm frightened I won't be able to cope with going out and about again. I have had a few panic attacks recently, but that started before I reduced 1 mg a day.  The thought of doing this isn't as frightening as it used to be.  I've had a few attempts before, years ago!  Any thoughts on this?

I have been involuntarily dependent for 45 years ..so I understand ..it's not worth your mental health and quality of life to reduce ..believe me Si know ..carry on as you are ..the medical profession got you into this ..don't let them ruin your life by coming off the tablets ...

Hi Pat   Thank you for replying. I'm lucky that my present GP said that she has no worries about me staying as I am, but wants me to have a go at reducing very slowly. I  would love not to be dependant on them, but I'm so worried about having my life close in.  I'm 60 soon and most of my working life I've been taking larger doses,  just to work. I have had to retire a few years back because of arthritis.  You have done well to get down to the level you are on.  I'm going to try and take things slowly and make sure I go out and about.  Sometimes I have more courage than others.  Anyway thank you.
