stopped Fluoxetine after 5 days, awful side effects.1 week later & still ill

Posted , 49 users are following.

I was on 20mg for 5 days. On the 4th day I was completely hyper, bad dreams, sweating, uncontrollable shaking which ended in an awful panic attack which I had never had before. 2 days later after another attack I ended up in A&E and apparently its a bad reaction.

Anyway I've been off them 6 days now and not feeling much better-nausea,dreams,anxiety,sweating. After taking them for such a short time shouldn't these side effects have stopped now? Thank you

Hi, I have been taking Flu for 2 days and have stopped this last night. I know people will say that’s not long enough but feel so horrendous and haven’t even been diagnosed with Anxiety so don’t want to bring this on if I don’t have it. How long to get out my system as I feel dreadful and with a 1 and a half year old finding things a bit difficult at the minute.

      Hi Jess,

I’m sooo sorry you had to experience that. I tried it for four days and had a terrible time. Trust your body. The half life is 1-3 days I believe. It should be completely out of your system by 6 days tops. Before you panic, this doesn’t mean you’ll experience what you did last night for 6 days straight. It’ll probably be a better night. Drink plenty of water to flush it out. I recommend the Gene sight testing to see what medications your body can and cannot metabolize well so you can avoid the terrible trial and error.

    Hi All,

I'm 28, and I went on fluoxetine for my chronic fatigue, it seemed no matter how good of a night's sleep I got it still took me till around 2/3/4 pm to feel fully awake. Almost like a hazy feeling. Once it passed I'd be back to my usual energetic self. So I tried fluoxetine as this was causing me to feel really down and with work stress also it was getting hard. All seemed to go well until the 12th day when I woke at 12.55am and my heart was skipping and jumping all over the place and then my temples started this insane burning feeling and I thought my head was about to explode and I spiralled into a huge panic attack, I've only ever had 3 and have managed anxiety since I was 17/18 but this was horrendous. I called the GP at 8am and he advised to either continue or gave me the option to stop. I decided to stop as my heart palpatations were freaking me out and it took a couple of days but I started to feel better, I still do feel much better than I did however every couple of days or so I'll wake up really tired and start getting the temple burn at a random time in the day but only mildly . I have been off flu for 3 weeks and 1 day and had a full MOT of my bloods within this time which all came back normal. Spoke to a much better GP just over a week ago (he advised the blood tests, wanted to check for common physical diseases) and he said it sounds like SSRI withdrawal and that the GP shouldn't of gave me the option to just stop.

Has anyone else experienced the temple burn with this?

    Thanks.

      Hello.

I cannot say I had temple burning as you allude to, but fluoxetine made me very ill. I thought I had some sort of jungle fever for about 4 days and that was after only taking them for 6 days. I was good for 5 days and then on the 6th day woke up feeling really poor and felt like I was going to be sick. I went through the motions but nothing came out and then I stayed in bed for about 3 days and not eating and not thinking I was going to live. I also had similar symptoms, but not as bad, when I previously tried sertraline and citalopram. It seems all 3 are in the same family of drugs and so if anyone suggests you try them be cautious as you may get similar reactions.

People do say that for the first 2 weeks or so there can be unpleasant effects, but after that the medicines do help. Unfortunately, I just cannot tolerate those effects for however long.

Hopefully you will find something, whatever that may be, and it will help as I know how evil anxiety is and how it can ruin your life and you are still very young.

Hi thanks for your reply, yes its a very odd sensation only happened after taking fluoxetine and no think it's because its still in my system hopefully it'll go eventually. My anxiety I can deal with it was the horrendous fatigue that was no helping.

I had been on 30mg Mirtazipine the doctor wanted me to start fluoxitine as its better for Anxiety, gave me a weekd reduced Mirtazapine at 15mg, and then had to start 20mg Fluoxitine.

The side effects were horrendous, in bed, sweats, palpations, dry mouth, racing thoughts, I thought I was going mad, never got a wink of sleep all night.

So after just 2 Fluoxitine I have stopped, can't go through another night like that, but its only 4.20 pm and I feel lousy, hot flushes etc.

I personally think I have been taken off the Mirtazapine too sudden, this will still be in my system, then taking fluoxitine, it was horrible.

Amazed how just 2 20mg can have this effect.

So today I have resorted to Propranonol to try and steady me..untill I talk to doctor on Monday.

Claire, im really hoping you read this. I was started on 20mg fluoxetine 7 days ago and i have honestly never felt so terrified and awful ever. Heart beating out of my chest, shaking all over, a feeling in my stomach that something awful is going to happen and yesterday the most horrific panic attacks all day where i just couldn't breathe. I'm a mess, called the doc back today and she didn't seem to concerned so i started reading up on fluoxetine. Ive been thinking for the last 6 days that its my anxiety just getting worse and have honestly felt like im going crazy. I havent taken a tablet today and will never touch fluoxetine again. I was wondering how long it took for you to feel normal again? cause this is just awful. xx

starting day 3 of being off prozac tomorrow. I only took it for 5 days. it was awful. i feel awful. my doctor prescribed buspirone and i was too scared to take it until this morning around 5 AM when I'd finally had enough of being too panicked to sleep. moat awful decision I've ever made. but I've felt better this afternoon. almost happy actually. I missed work today but I cant be missing all kinds of days so I'll have to go in tomorrow I'm hoping the buspirone keeps working like it did today.
