Stopping diazepam after 6-7 weeks

Hi, I'm new here and having terrible anxiety about taking diazepam. I have had terrible insomnia for a number of years, and a few months back the anxiety about not sleeping became unbearable. My GP prescribed me 28 x 2mg of diazepam to take as needed. I also take 50mg trazadone each night.

For the first 10 nights I took the 2mg and this instantly helped me sleep. As I didn't want to become reliant on this I then reduced the dose to 1mg a night, then 0.5mg a night. For the last couple of weeks I have mainly been taking 0.25mg a night and this still seems to help me.

I have now been taking Diazepam for 7 weeks and really want to stop but as I have been taking it every day, albeit most of that has been on very low doses, am I going to suffer withdrawal when stopping. I have scared myself with reading horror stories on other forums.

    Hi there,

I was on a low dose of lorazepam for 20 years, for panic attacks.

They were the only drug that helped and I would take them again if I needed them.

The only caution is that you have to wean off them slowly, which I did, and it was fine.

Take the dose that was prescribed to you, and get some sleep.

    Best wishes.

    Moira,

I take valium at night, 20mg of Temazepam to be exact, i can come off them with a slight temor, slight paranoia on going out and meeting people and have been on them for 9 years. I CAN PRETTY MUCH GUARANTEE if you half the dose AGAIN to 0.12.5mg for three nights then abstain. YOU WILL BE FINE, no side effects.
