Stopping Escitalopram

Posted , 1 user is following.

I've been taking escitalopram for 1 year, I was told by my GP that I would only be on it for few months. I only take 5mg every day and I feel good at the moment with no real feelings of depression like before. However I would like to come off them and have tried a few times, but do start to feel low again. What the best thing to do, and what has anyone else experienced coming off them?

    hi there!

my panic attacks started on 15 August 2008, my doctor prescribed me escitalopram 10mg, and after 2 months i felt like that if im totally fine, so my doctor advised me to decrease the dose to 5mg. but after 1 month my attacks started coming back and i gradually came back to the same situation i was in before taking this medicine. again my doctor increased the dose and now after 5 months im feeling better and i want to stop this medicine but my doctor advised me to complete 6 months of medication and then we will decrease. hope this time i will succeed.lets see after 1 month what happens.

I was on Citalopram for 4-5 months a year or so ago and I rushed to get off them. I coped OK but eventually my problems returned.

My advice - do a good course of the drug, even if it's 12 months, get some CBT counselling for your anxiety/panic/depression problems then slowly come off the drug.
