Stopping Fluoxetine

I've been on 40mg of Fluoxetine for twelve weeks now and have only gotten worse. I don't have a doctor at the moment and wondered would anyone think it would be okay to just stop? It's a capsule or else I would cut it down...I'm miserable;cried all day today(ongoing issue)...felt spacey....couldn't think

Wow, if you haven't felt any better within the time period the medicine is suppose to work then, maybe its not the right med for you. And if you go cold turkey and stop it, you'll defienitely feel the withdrawal effects of it. You might need to find you a doctor to discuss coming off of it and or change to a different med. Some meds may not work well for you as it could in someone else. So, maybe you'll have to try something else. Also look on you tube for natural ways to help with anxiety.

Thank you...I appreciate the insight; yes, I'm definitely going to find a new doctor. I've never felt so badly in my life...I won't go cold turkey....going to open the capsules and decrease that way....thank you again.

They make it in tablet form too if you need to cut dose down that way

I really hate the spaciness; makes me feel I can do nothing; a huge mental block.

I agree prozac is a drug that takes a long time to work, but I just stopped fluoxetine after 13 weeks of it not working and switched to Lexapro, best decision i've ever made. All my depression and anxiety went away in 2 weeks. Lexapro was a life saver for me

Interesting!!I did awesome on celexa for five years which is the sister drug to lexapro and and when I tried to go back on celexa it made me worse immediately and had to try Prozac!I wonder if I could handle lexapro though!Did you notice a difference switching from Prozac to lexapro and had Prozac done anything for you?

Thank you for your insight Kenney; glad Lexapro worked for you. For some reason, it failed to work for me. It was the first ssri I tried.
