Stopping HRT

Hello! I was wondering if anyone could share what they went through while coming off of HRT.

I’m 35, have been in menopause for nearly 10 years, and I started estrogen & progesterone about 6 months ago to help maintain my bones. But it’s been a hard 6 months, with mood swings, cramps, spotting when I haven’t had to use a pad in years, and I gained 10lbs already. I don’t feel like myself anymore, and I don’t know what else to do than to come off the hormones. But I’m worried that it’s going to be another bad 6 months.

So any insight would be appreciated!! Thank you!

Sorry to hear that your going through a hard time Bowieisba. Would it be worthwhile speaking with your GP and or GYN specialist to see whether there's anything they can do to help rather than come straight off?

Hopefully someone on the site will be able to helpx

I don’t think that it is good idea Bowie.

You are too young to leave your body without the protection of estrogen except if there are contradictions. Definitely you need to talk to your gyn.

Maybe you need to find a type and dosage that suits you better. Are you on hrt for 10 years or you started now?

Hi bowieisbae , I came off of HRT twice now as had to due to anaesthetic … Oh my I would never want to come off them again as I did, just stopped them. My symptoms were horrendous! What made things worse was had to wait 6 weeks for them to get back into my system b4 they worked, I am post meno! You started your menopause very young? Have you tried any other HRT as sometimes you have to see what suits youquestion

Oh wow! I didn’t think stopping “cold turkey” would cause too much to happen, but maybe I should slowly stop them? Was it unbearable though stopping suddenly? Because I’m at the point where I just can’t even bear thinking about how my body has changed. I was so positive about starting HRT for the first time just 6 months ago, but if this is what happens, then I just want out sad
