Is that your only insulin?  Your only drug?

?Are you following directions from a doctor that says, "discontinue if numbers look good"?

?Would you share the number?  I'm still over 100 in the morning, though my (pre) lunch and dinner numbers seem consistently below 100.

?I suppose you could discontinue day by day and see what happens, just so you keep checking.

I am on metformin 1k 2x daily and prandim 4mg with each meal. My glucose was 119 this am.

If the 119 is before breakfast that makes it basically a fasting number, and that's still a tad high, we're supposed to shoot for under 100.  Or were you told otherwise?

(ok yes "diabetics" are cut some slack and the number can be as high as 130 or even 150, but that's all a grey zone.  probably best discussed with your doctor.)

?... and what were your numbers when *on* the insulin?

I don't think that you should stop using it without consulting your doctor. I'm newly diagnosed and right now I'm on mertformin-500 twice day and my blood glucose levels are about 115-120 and the maximum I recorded was before breakfast, i.e. 130. I guess metformin is working for me. But, if you want to stop using Insulin., you should surely consult your doctor because you obviously understand how dangerous can high glucose levels be. I hope you get some help. Reply me when you figure out your results!

Hi Magenta, my mother was on insulin. Under doc’s care and a very strict diet, we switched her to metformin, as her glucose numbers were high. Sorry, I don’t remember what her numbers were.

After a while, I transitioned her off the metformin with herbs- citrus bergamont and berberine. In a very short time her numbers we low enough that I took her off the berberine and citrus bergamont. We continued the strict diet for another few months, (in total 6-8 months of very strict diet). Once she was off all the meds and her blood sugar was stable on its own with the strict diet, I started slowly adding in gluten free bread, fruits, other starches, ice cream and eventually chocolates and candies.

During this time, my mother was struggling with multiple illnesses, which I treated with herbs and acupuncture. So to be fair, it’s likely that the other herbs and supplements (I gave her boron and she took a ton of oregano oil) may have contributed to her recovery, as well as the acupuncture.

It’s been two years in all now and she’s doing quite well with her gluten free Paleo style diet and no medications.
