Stopping Olanzipine (xyprexa) cold turkey after being on it for a month

My 25 year old son had a mental breakdown and had to be admitted to the hospital.

Once there he was placed in a behavioral health unit and treated first with Risperdal and had an allergic reaction and then was placed on zyprexa.

After treatment for 12 days he was released and he appeared to be okay but a little off which was to be expected after such trauma.

it has now been almost a month and the zyprexa is making him feel horrible, he was on 15mg and they upped it to 20mg every evening.

As parents we are overwhelmed with the abundance of information on line and what I have seen about this medication is horrifying, the side effects are terrible and they don't outweigh the efficacy of the drug.

My son is into fitness and eating healthy and the medication has taken a toll on him and I wish there was another way.

i read here of a person who was able to get off this medication successfully but it was from 5 years ago, is there anyone else ?

Does my son have to be on antipsychotics for the rest of his life!
