Hi Hippies

It is 6 weeks this coming Tuesday since my left hip was done.

I have had stranfge bruising appearing on parts of my body thyat are nothing to do with my op. eek

For the last 48 hours my right knee has been really painful. Thgis morning I woke up to find all round my knee was black but the pain has subsided.

The heel of my right hand is painful and black also. I have slight bruising round my right ankle.

Operated leg is a little sore. Brusing round the kneee but no where else.

Still got one area yet to compleatly heal with quite a large scab.

Can't excesize as much as I could when I first came out of hpospital because the right hip is now so painful when I try to walk I am almost in tears. Can't phone the hospital or see a GP because it is bank holiday.here. Not seeing consultant till 8th june.

Anyone else had bruising turn up weeks after op but not on the operated side?

Are you still on the anticoagulants? I wonder if you are bleeding internally or have a low platelet count. I would think that you need to get it checked urgently, possibly by getting yourself to AE at the hospital where you had the surgery, bank holiday not withstanding

Ring 999 like they told you and get yourself off to hospital

i had bruising appear on my arm on the operated side after a couple of weeks, I think that we are pulled around unceremoniously during any operation that bruising is inevitable - even going to the dentist and having a filling with an injection leaves pain in other parts of the mouth, if you have seen the video of the operation you will know how our bodies are treated so i dont think it is anything to worry about

Any chance of you phoning the ward you were on direct? I was given the ward number to use if I was worried. Let us know what they say

It could be a form of blood poisoning, don't mean to scare you but, my friend had it, her knee was sore after she'd hurt it at work, a couple of weeks later the knee wasn't too bad but then she started to come out in bruising all over her legs, I can't remember the name of it, I know there's one called cellulitis, if I were you I'd go to A&E straight away, better to be safe than sorry. Or you could try ringing the nhs helpline. Let us know how you get on.

Hi, after 6 weeks I don't think this is bruising related to your manipulation. As already suggested on here, if you have the number for the ward where you had it done, ring them asap. If you don't have that number get yourself checked out now. Please don't wait.x

Medical emergency. You could be bleeding internally. Stop all blood thinning prescriptions. I kept vitamin K following my thr as I knew I did not need the thinners, having used herbs for many years prior. if you have surface bleeding, it is a sign of what maybe going on throughout yourbody. Your internal incisions may not have healed. I am surprised your hospital did not warn you... please let us know. Worst time A n E weekends and bank hol. You may well have to explain to any junior dr.as consultants will be on the golf course or Tuscany... Maggie I agree

    Hi everyone.

Thank you for your concern. I got back home from A & E about 5 am this morning.

It was a complication with my right hip joint which since I have had my left hip done has become worse and I havn't been able to walk / excersise as much as I should be. The leg became sore and swollen and the swelling caused the brusing.

I was lucky that my consultant was actually in the hospital dealing with a trauma case after an RTA. So he came to see me and got a physio to manipulate my leg and muscles and massaged the pain away. A build up of lactic acid in the mucsles and the problem with the hip was the cause of the brusing. It is still a little sore but it is much better. The physio said to come back on Thursday for another session and to phone the physio dept if there are any more problems before then.

I can walk again now where as before it was way too painful. I also had a doplar scan just in case it was a clot but thank goodness that was not the case.

I have never in my life felt pain like I did last night. But it seems all is good again and I can do my walking again.

Nothing to do with my blood thinners either I am only on asprin any way.

Hi everyone. Thank you for your kind words. I went back down the hospital very early this morning and met up with my contulatant at his request. We have got to the bottom of what the problem is and it is as easy as raising the bottom of my matress on the bed so my feet are higher than my heart & using icepack ( frozen peas ) on the worst swollen areas. The swelling was restrickting the flow of blood back up my legs and so was causing my legs to swell. Just had 3 hours with my legs raised. WoW what a difference already. So have to do this over night now and anytime I want to rest. I alsao have to force myself to be even more mobile than I am even if my right hip hurts like hell. I have to do it or this condition will not get better for a long time. I asked if I have to wear the TED stockings again and because today is my six weekaversary the answer was NO WOO HOO. My left leg was so swollen that there biggest ones would have been too small any way. All thisa was caused by the hip op. Now most of you know I have a very bad needle phobia. I was very brave today and with the help of some gas and air I had two injections of anticoagulant and only felt the first one a little but the second one I didn't. Looks like a small snake bit me on my belly.  But wow I wasn't expecting the stinging after. So I am deffo on the mend now. The last of my wound scab fell off today also. So all clean and dry on my scar. Next appointment 8th April and I will be going in for the hydro therapy because my consultant now knows I can't cope with my right hip until he can do that one.

Again thank you for all your kind words everyone.

So pleased you've got it sorted & yoube got rid of those awful ted's!! So uncomfortable in this weather. I had an awful lot of those anticoagulant injections, in the end I just said 'oh stick it in', but yes the after affect is worse!

      onwards & upwards hailea.  😀
