Strange cause for celebration

Hi everyone!  Strangely, I feel like celebrating because, having been told that my 4 biopsies over 5 years all were negative for Lichen Sclerosus, I have at last had the condition confirmed by a gynaecologist who seems to know what he is talking about without a further biopsy (which I would have refused).  It may seem strange to celebrate, but at least now I am not being shown the door  by the medical profession, because nobody could understand what I needed and I feel that somebody with an understanding of what is going on is keeping an eye on things.   Once again I feel like a fully paid up member of this forum - hello!  :-)

I have had the condition for 22 years, although it wasn't diagnosed until 2004.  Haven't had much advice over that time either.  I think I went nearly into remission for a time, too, because the itching abated.  But the tissue changes the hospital doctor mentioned in 2004 were an revelation:  no one had mentioned it.  I told the doctor recently that I didn't use the steroid cream until I felt the 'tingling' that I now think heralds the tissue changes.  The itching I keep at bay with water, keeping the area dry and if it is flaring I use the topical petroleum based cream directly on the area.  I know we are all different and that some of you are having a harder time of it but plain old almond oil or the doctor's  petroleum based cream are getting me by and mostly I don't think about it.  Although I now know that the labia are pared down and may disappear completely before I am in the 80's.  I should also mention that the last time I was sexually active, back in 2004, the ejaculate nearly sent me through the roof and gave me a terrible flare up.  It's a good thing I am single, I guess.  Good luck to you dearheart.

That's very interesting Amitka, that ejaculate stung. This happened when I lost my virginity, forty years ago and I put it down to the lubricated condom. I think it was an ongoing problem. I'm happy without sex now, after so many years (decades) of it being more a burden than a pleasure.
