Strange chest feeling

Hi everyone,

I'm on Zoloft 50, almost 5 weeks.

Well now I have a strange feeling in my chest. It doesn't hurt,it isn't pressure. It kinda of feels like an anxiety attack but way less. I've had bloodwork done, blood pressure is good. The only thing I can think of is another weird side effect. Has any body had this. Also my breathing is fine. Will this ever be over. I realize I'm whining but just tired of all this. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I was on Zoloft ( Sertraline) 50mg for 4 weeks. It gave me panic attacks, anxiety, heart palpitations and made me feel sick. I never had anything like that when I was on Paroxetine ( Seroxat) it just started to lose it's effectiveness after 20 years. I am now on Citalopram, but have only been on it for 3 days. Hope this helps you.

Thank you Tony for your reply, and yes it did help to know that I'm not alone on this journey. Keep us updated on your new medication. It's good to know if one doesn't work maybe another one will.

Tony, I’m curious did u start sertraline for anxiety?

I’m thinking of trying another drug keeping in mind I have a sensitive gut- that’s why GP put me on Zoloft (treatment for anxiety)- I had brief GI symptoms but that resolved.  The chest discomfort, insomnia, fatigue and dry mouth won’t let up after 3 months on sertraline.

Wondering if Paxil has a better profile - to help anxiety and sleep without causing GI upset.

Reduced from 100mg to 75 today

      Hi Tammy,

No I didn't start Sertraline for anxiety, mine is more social, OCD, intrusive thoughts, hard to explain. I am also suffer slightly from hypochondria. Paroxetine was good for me I just needed a lift to take me to the next step. Been in Citalopram for 3 days, but of a sickly stomach but that could be the lasting effects of Sertraline. Sertraline made me feel so ill, felt like I was dying, never again.

    Hi Brenda,

    You are not alone.  I’ve been on sertraline for 3 months now- 25mg x 10 days, 50mg x 5 weeks, 75 x 10 days and now 100mg x 4 weeks.

I did have physical anxiety in my chest when started but this pressure that now doesn’t lift seems more drug induced.  I’ve been trying to persevere but now that it’s also impacted my sleep and I’m terribly fatigued and dry mouth is awful.  I’m thinking of weaning off it as I think I’ve given it enough time.....

Be sure to give it enough time, some say the side effects resolve over time.

    All the best xx

      Thank you Tammy,

I was just discussing this with my husband about the way I was feeling. He agreed with you about giving it time. We all just want to feel better not worse . As to the dry mouth, yep have that too. Maybe one day I'll wake up and say WOW its working. 😊

    Hi!

I may be too late for this discussion, but it’s worth a shot! I started back on Zoloft 50 mg after the birth of my son. I was on it for two years prior to my pregnancy and then stopped for 11 months to have my child.

Since starting back I am experiencing the EXACT same sensation and it’s driving me crazy! It’s like my chest is tightening but not really? More like a small anxiety attack but not full blown..just localized in my chest. I get it for a small burst of time almost every day.

Did you ever find any relief from this? I am going to get a dr appt to make sure nothing else could be wrong. I never felt this way the first time I took Zoloft before baby!

    Thanks!

Hi Lindsey, no ur not to late. I still get it but not everyday and sometimes it won't happen for awhile. I come to the conclusion that it is anxiety. Even though i take 100 now it happens but not to the extent like before. When it happens, i just tell myself it is just anxiety and med. It seems to work. This is how i know that the med is working, because before med i would have a full blown anxiety attack. I also came to the conclusion that even though I'm on medication it's not going to cure me , its just a way to cope with it. I thank the good Lord everday for this drug, I m afraid of where i would be if I didn't have it. But yes talk to ur doctor about this , I'm sure your get an answer. I hope all goes well for you.
