Strange diziness

Hey guys! This is really frustrating so I thought I might get some help here. I'm 18 and I'm a female. I have severe anxiety and I'm overthinking on this.

This is a long story, so here we go!

So back to December last year, I was told to loose weight since I was real close to having diabetes, so I was pre diabetic. I started taking metformin 2000mg/day. I weighed 98 kilos for my 1.65 height. On the course of 6 months I was able to loose 33 kilos, now I weight 65 kilos. I did cut a lot back on my calories, but still.managed to have a good nutrition. It was around the 5th month mark I started feeling really bad and my BP was always on the 80's/50's with a irregular pulse ( sometimes it'd be 60 and sometimes 90. From one measurement to another). I was 74 kilos at the time, and started having diziness, my head felt really light. I decided to go to the doctor . She ordered some CBC. They came back a bit low, but nothing to worry about . She did a physical exam, and noticed my eyes would jump a bit whenever she told me to look up. I mentioned the fact I have a cavernoma that had bleeding 2 years ago, and she asked for MRI images. She then told me to slow down my weight loss and start eating more calories. But she also told that if it continued , I should go back to her to do a CT scan to my head. She had both my weight loss and cavernoma as possible reasons for what I was feeling this was back in May.

I never went to the doctor again. She also said I should reduce metformin to 1500mg/day. Things got better for a period of time, I started taking more calories, which didn't help much, since I always thought and my parents too that the problem was me not eating enough. I went to my endocrinologist in mid August, did new labs and they came back totally normal. I stopped losing weight , I eat a balanced diet and exercise (daily 1 hour jog). The thing is that diziness has been getting worse. Sometimes when I get up and walk a few steps I have to stop, breath deeply and hold onto something, because my head feels real light and my legs feel weak. I start seeing the things around me getting black for some seconds and I rub my eyes, I feel my face getting hot for a second, and then it all comes back to normal. I get this lots of times a day, even when I'm standing I'll start feeling bad. Sometimes I can't breath deeply, like I can't fill my lungs with enough air. My metformin dose was reduced to 1000mg/day but I felt the same. (For some time the doctor thought the high dose was the problem) It's frustrating because I feel bad a lot of the time. My body seemed to come up a bit, to the 10's but my diziness has been getting worse, so my concern is that where is this coming from. Either from my cavernoma or something else! I'm quite worried! I mentioned everything I could to help. Is there anyone who could help me here? I plan on going to the doctor anyways. Also, I feel cold a lot of the time too. Any help is appreciated!!

Also a cousin of mine who is a med student listened to my heart with a stethoscope and told me it felt irregular, like of it slipped a beat here and there.

    Hi Rita,

I'm sorry to hear about all your symptoms but I think this one is a bit too complicated for anyone to provide answers, or even suggestions, on a patient forum.

A lot of your symptoms could be down to the metformin, particularly the dizziness and feeling cold, but some of the others too. Also, you have very low blood pressure, which would naturally cause postural hypotension (i.e. dizziness on standing up too quickly). I agree with your doctor, that you've probably lost a bit too much weight too quickly - though congratulations for managing that, it must have taken a lot of effort!

You don't say where the cavernoma is. I'm assuming the brain, but it can occur in other parts of the body, including the eye. Depending where it is, this could also be contributing to your problems.

You stated at one point in your post: "I never went to the doctor again". I really feel you should be under regular medical supervision with your combination of health problems. I see you said later in your post that you plan going to the doctor again. This would be a good move. I'm sure that with correct medical supervision and your desire to help yourself there's no reason why you shouldn't live a normal, healthy life. But please get that medical framework in place.

I hope you'll soon be feeling better.
