Strange Fluoxetine side effects

Hi everyone.

Started to take Fluoxetine just over 2 weeks ago after being prescribed them for depression and anxiety. I'm hoping it will get better with time, but at the moment I'm feeling so tired constantly, and like I've lost all my motivation. I'm also feeling quite self conscious around people, and my anxiety has increased a little. If anyone's had a similar experience, how long was it until you started to feel better? I'm not planning on stopping the medication as I've heard it does take time, but can't help wondering how long I have to endure these exacerbated feelings :?

THis afternoon has been ok, it seems to come in waves for me, one minute I feel fine, the next it hits me and feel low/ anxious! Can't wait for these to kick in and give me a break from all this! x

That's great to hear! It's so hard as I think I felt better before I went on the tablets compared to now but I know it's just while they are settling in x

I've just stopped taking flu after only 1 month because I couldn't stand the lack of energy and brain fog but the withdrawal effects are just terrible. Much worse than how I felt when I first started taking them. I've gone totally white, feel sick, really dizzy and just want to sleep. Does anyone else have experience of coming off them after such a short time?

    Thank you x x

    Did u do it gradually???

Your meant to do it slowly...... Yh it's normal with drawl systoms...

If you Just stop taking them you feel 100x worse sudden withdrawal is really bad ...

My gp said depening how long you been on them .. That the length of time your ment to take to stop taking

    Them so

If your going slow then it takes 4 weeks to fully get out your systom

Might be worth going back to your gp and seeing if he can help/ advise with the symptoms

Yeah think I'm going to have to! Just feel like I can't talk to anyone about it and feel like a bit of a failure for not being able to stay on them...Sure everyone on here has had these highs and lows but it's just so awful because I can't imagine ever being the person I used to be before I started to feel depressed.

Awwww Hun your not a failure... Just the tablets was not right for you ... You should get bk to gp and discuss other options

Tablets work so differently for everyone, if you read through some of the other forums on here people have had great reactions to them while others can't handle them for more than a day…. def go back and talk to your doctor as they'll be thinking you're getting on well. The most important thing right now is you getting better and slowly getting back to the person you really are.

Are you taking tablets for depression? Have you tried counselling - I have it once a week and I'm so determined to get to the bottom of what this is all about for me, deal with it, put provisions in place and live my life again without all of this! x

Yeah it was for depression and minor anxiety - it's frustrating but they really worked but the tiredness was just making me feel so unlike myself, I couldn't go running which is one of the few things I actually enjoyed. I'm determined to try and get better naturally but then I'm plagued by doubts thinking I should have just stayed on them and seen it through. I just can't seem to make decisions!

I would say go back to doc and talk it through, then you can make more of a decision. I got to the stage where I battled the anxiety so much that once i was stuck in the cycle I just needed that tablet to help me get back out of it, you don't need to stay on them for long or be ashamed to be on them, some are very low dose and just give you that helping hand. I would recommend reflexology as helped me a bit. There are things like st johns wart, but you can't take that with any prescribed anti depressants.

Do you have people around you that you have told that can help?
