Strange & Funny Story from NHS

Hi everyone

This is not your usual story of ailments and complaints, but bare with me. I hope you find this as funny as I did.

It started about 2 years ago when I had an appointment to see a Gastrologist. Afterwards, heard nothing.

Fast foward a year and a half, I had a endroscopy. I was waiting for a follow up appointment when a letter came through Dec 2015. Asking if I still wanted the appointment.

Thinking it was for the follow up, I phoned the appointment line telling them, "Of course I do !!!"

A week later I got my follow up appointment for the Endrocrinology Department.

A week after that, I got an appointment for the Gastrology Department ????!!!!

Once again, I phoned the appointment line asking what this was for. They could not tell me but urged me to keep the appointment.

Saw my own doctor at the beginning of Feb' 2016 to see if she had arranged this, but she had not.

Went to my appointment for Gastrology Department a couple of day's ago. Asked the nurse at the hospital if she knew. She looked through my records and could not find the reason.

Eventually, got in to see the Consultant and asked her.

She was looking at my medical records and you could slowly see her face changing................

I SHOULD OF HAD THIS APPOINTMENT TWO YEARS AGO. !!!!!!!

That's right, it was absolutely hillarious. I actually could not stop laughing, which seem to enhance her embarrassment.

They were so embarrassed that they were running round to see if there was something wrong with me so they could do test's !!!!!!!.

I was wondering whether anyone out there has had a similar story, I would love to read it.

By the way, I have my appointment for the Endocrinology Department tomorrow, (The real appointment).

Many thanks to everyone who as taken the time to read this, I am still chuckling to myself.

I hate to say it as funny as it might be that is prety darn unprofessional on their part. What if the follow up was for something serious. It is amazing how incompetant doctors can be. My dentist is similar, as they told me that I had a crown on order and they would call me when it was in. So I waited. One month later one of my teeth broke I thought oh heck here we go with yet another crown. I called my dentist and they got me in quickly. They looked at my broken tooth and said that this is the temp that they were going to crown. They said we have had a crown in stock for me for 3 weeks. So no one called me and in the mean time the temp tooth broke. Absolutly no excuse for this kind of service when it comes to your health.

      I agree with you Craig

Luckyly it was nothing serious with me, and I suppose that's why I can find it funny.

Not nice with you as teeth problems and the pain they can cause is one of those pain's that I find hard to handle.

      Hope you are okay now.

I dont think its the doctors who are unprofesssional, but the back up and organisational staff. There used to be a perfectly adequate system  of referral and appointment organisation, where the staff were familiar with the patient needs and really cared.   Then the potential governments saw the NHS as a political football and kept re organising the NHS so that money would be saved...haha. I have heard and indeed have experiences of my own that say to me the NHS is now in turmoil.   Dedicated staff left in disgust as the caring element was taken away from them and too many layers have now been introduced to its detriment.    Add low wages to that, and a mess results.

Hi Kev...I see you are in UK.    I'm afraid your story is becoming all too common. I've heard several tales like this one and could add a few of my own. My personal opinion is that there are too many layers of administration recently introduced into the NHS so no continuity with patient care.
