However, what medication are you taking?
You were on 75mcg? When did you change it?
You say you were overmedicating. What blood work was done? What were the results? What was the basis for the "overmedicating?
What were the symptoms before and after changing the medication?
How long were the symptoms for?
Do you have any other health problems? I hate to ask the obvious, but there are certain health problems that seem to run paralelle with thyroid disease.
Sometimes it helps to keep a journal. Unfortunately, withthe brain fog, I understand that this is nearly impossible.
Also, to keep in mind, different people react differently to different medications. I had horrible symptons and constant headaches withthe synthetics.Horrible migrains when the dose was too low.
Hope that helps.
Good luck!

I was having a really difficult time for years and finally was advised to shop doctors until I found one that worked. The doctor I ended up with is an endocrinology specialist. If your doctor isn't a specialist, you might try going to one. I tend to like the older doctors because they have more experience and aren't as dependant on computer screeens. But I'm in the US, so if you're in the UK, your system is different there.
You really need to get hold of your lab results, so you can keep track of things yourself.
I know that this isn't going to help immediately, so maybe we can trouble shoot your situation... Your iron was low, which could make you tired, and if they didn't catch that, could have mistaken the tiredness for low thyroid. But that is unlikely because doctors will generally err on the side of too little rather than too much thyroid medication. And we don't know your lab results, so we can't know for sure if you're so discombobulated that you can't think. Since you've already lowered your thyroid medication, it's unlikey that your symptoms are caused by too much thyroxin. Try doing a search for high thyroxin and see what the symptopms are. The thing you have to also be careful of is the high and low symptoms of thryoid are very similar. Generally, if it's too high, you won't be tired, if it's too low, you will be tired. The anxiety could be either too low or too high meds. I had severe anxiety when my meds were too low.
The problem with thyroid disease is that it tends to result in what I would call a delicate system. Basically, it's super sensitive to everything.
If you're also adding in a B complex with the iron, that could make you jittery and cause some anxiety as well. Because your system isn't used to it.
There are other things that paralelle thyroid disease. Since most thyroid disease is caused by Grave's or Hoshimoto's disease, both which are auto-immune disease, going gluten-free is something that really helps a lot of people.
Depending on the cause of your thryoid problem, and the severity of it, your thyroid could be overproducing alternating with underproducing thyroxin. This is like a flippin' roller coaster, and indicates the thyroid is very weak. From what I've read, my feeling is it's better to medicate and try to stablize your system and give the thyroid a rest if it's doing the on/off thing.
Do you have any muscle aches? Any pain in the neck area? Is the back of your neck unusually warm?
The jittery could be either supplements or your thyroid trying to work more. If it's weak, it can pump out bursts of thyroxin, resulting in the rollercoaster effect.
Another symtom of low thyroid... Are you ingesting a lot of caffeine alternating with sugar and or chocolate? This is a way that some people self-medicate thyroid disease without realizing it.
I don't know if any of that helps. If it isn't that, do some more trouble-shooting.

Yes Daivd I feel all of those and have been for the last 1 1/2 year, docs can't find the cause even had MRI to CT scan to loads of different meds but nothing changed. Upped my dose of Levo to 75mcg but still no change yet. I feel like I'm going mad with this content head squeezing and eyes pulling like I need to sleep all the time. Are you feeling somewhat better? If you are, what helped?
Kind regards

You take thyroid medication and have a lesion on your pituitary gland; do you have multiple endocrine neoplasia?

Hello: I am the poster child for overmedication(I think). I was on 150mcg and my TSH was around .5 for about 8months. (Normal according to the lab). During that time, been having all kind of problems. Admitted to hospital for palpitations. All kind of weird sensations, split second feelings of dizziness, tinnitus, head fullness/fogginess/pressure, nausea, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, pounding pulse in head/neck, weird smells, panic attacks, I think it screwed up my GI tract because I had a bowel blockage (admitted again) that nobody could explain. Also had severe plantar fasciitis and hive-like rash on rear (terribly itchy). Doctor couldn't connect the two but my research found connections to Thyroid/meds. Numerous blood tests, ct scans, heart cath, scoped both ends, EEG, that were all (thankfully)normal. About 7 weeks ago my doc lowered my dose to 125mcg. Some of the symptoms have dissipated but still about a 5 out of 10. Lowered again to 100 just today. I asked myself every day if I was having a nervous breakdown. I read several posts from people in the same situation and it took them 3 months to start feeling better. I'm thinking the body symptoms lag behind the thyroid lab values. How are you getting on now? Hopefully better than me.

That's where my blood pressure used to be. It has since come down to about 150±/85± after several months on Lisinopril and a new med today. Please keep me posted and try to have a good holiday.

I had my appointment to see my MD on Monday to discuss my HBPressure, he has increased my dosage of Ramipril from 5MG to 10MG and added 5MG to be taken at night (total of 15 MG. I have been monitoring the pressure since the new dosage, the measurement is 168/85, I guess I have to give it some time to work, I am scheduled to see my MD in 3 months.
On Thursday I met with my Endocronologist, the blood test revealed that the thyroid meds need to be adjusted again , as a result the dosage has decreased from 73MCG to 50MCG. Scheduled to see her in 3 months.
Wishing you good health, Peace, Joy and happiness this Christmas and through the new year.

Dave, I know this is an older post, but I am currently experience what you describe in your post above. Over medicated! I went gluten free and now doc thinks for months I was absorbing too much of my thyroid meds and kept feeling worse and worse. So, like you, I started stepping down on dosage. It is VERY comforting to hear someone else with my symptoms! Weird head pressure, fast pulse, just feeling bad in general some days better than others but most a struggle to get through. NO energy.
Wanting to ask how did it take your symptoms to finally settle down? Like you mention, it can take a couple months. I have dropped all the way down to zero med and am on week #5. It is a slow process!

I see this is a very old post, but I am having head and neck pulsing and wonder if it is caused by taking too much thyroid medication. Wonder what happened to your symptoms.
Thanks
