Strange Patient Impression Received (OpenNotes)

Hi, so I saw a surgeon regarding knee laxity I was having 5 months after surgery. This surgeon seemed quite rude. Sometime after the visit, I received an email which contained his impression. (I was also told the MRI would cost $600 yet I was billed for over $1300.) Some of the stuff he noted in the impression seems odd. Is it typical for doctors to write their impressions like this?:

"Coy about illegal drug use. Planning HGH use. Xray needed. Will need further surgery. Tilt of tibial plateau cannot assess without xrays. Inappropriate use of stemcell/PRP therapy. No PT has left him significantly weak. That needs to be addressed now. Anticipate at least 6mo of PT/rehab to recover muscle function before surgery. Surgery not on a discount - very complicated issue. Anticipate at least 6-9 mo of PT/rehab after surgery. Need to stop researching on internet - it's guiding him down wrong paths and he doesn't understand what he's doing. Very complicated situation at this point."

Those seem like very odd notes to me. Why is he even referring to illegal drug use? Did you perform the rehab they instructed? If so, this seems very out of place.

Well, I did say I was considering doing HGH after surgery, but it still seemed unusual the way he noted it.

I also didn't say I did no PT, I told him I did my own PT at gymnastics, just not PT at a clinic.

Human Growth Hormone. It's thought it can help heal injuries faster, though it still seems inconclusive.

Some doctors can be very arrogant, not a good trait. I would seek a new one after that. The drug use whatever that is doesn't have anything to do with your knee should be left out of the assesment. What business of his is it that you research procedures on the internet before having them. Does he have a problem with patients that are informed? Some doctors don't like this because you may question their recomendations. So What. If more people did this there would be less people going in for unnecessary treatments. I think you should be informed, knowledge is power. If it were me I would seek a new doctor.

This makes me angry!  Seek a second opinion!  This guy is putting you down and taking away your validity as a person!  Oooooo this makes me angry! A REAL doctor would welcome any research done by the patient for he/her would have nothing to gain by you staying ignorant.  I cannot even write I am so angry.  You are part of the medical team and in fact, YOU are THE most IMPORTANT member of the medical team!  Please get a second opinion and do not take any records from this doc with you!
