Strange rash - concerned

Posted , 3 users are following.

I've had mono for around 4 months now and have recently started to feel better. More energy and feeling like my previous self. I still have a swollen lymph gland in the side of my neck and visited my doctor last week. He wasnt concerned and said it may take time to go down. Last night I have developed an itchy rash on my shoulder and neck. Basically a series of red itchy lumps (about 7-8) looks similar to heat lumps (which they may well be, I was hoping they would have disappeared this morning but they're still there).

I am trying to be rational but I can't help being concerned as I have read that lymphoma can cause an itchy rash. I am not on any medication.

Has anyone experienced this at this stage or later with this virus?

    Hi Gill,

It's hard for me to remember exactly if I had anything like this as it was a long time ago, I do remember I had a phase, just before I started to feel much better, where I started getting bruising and different weird things happening and it scared me, but it was just a phase that maybe lasted a few weeks and did settle down thankfully.

Hoping very much that this rash / itch settles down, it is only understandable for you to worry and be anxious given what you've been through. I do remember having some itching during the virus and I have read lots of people talk about itching, so I definitely think that's a common thing - when you think of it makes sense as your nervous system is running overdrive and when having things like low grade fever running in your body it is natural that very irriating and frustrating things like itching can occur.

I know you were at the doctor recently but Gill don't hesitate to keep going back if having concerns, sometimes we just need to do that to put our minds at rest. I know yesterday I had to run and get a doctors appointment too as I did a twist and pulled something and getting myself all worried and panicked too. And hoping for sure that this symptom disappears soon and that your mind can be put at ease - and remember the painful lymph node on your neck will settle too with time - for me this was a lingering symptom one of the last maybe to go, still felt twinges when I started to feel better but it definitely does go with time and very much can be a normal part of glandular fever.

Thinking about you still and hoping you are feeling okay today - hang in there Gill things will get better, I know that's hard to see sometimes when in the midst of it all but you will get there with this truly you will.

Thanks Craig for your advice as always 😃 The rash has gone now, it lasted a couple of days & then passed. Who knows whether it's related to this virus or not, I've had so many symptoms it's hard not to relate them all to it. Still got this swollen gland & my anxiety is through the roof over it.

Sorry to hear you were back at the doctors. Hope you're ok & feeling better now?

      Hey Gill,

Good to hear from you and glad to hear that the rash has now settled. Just hoping that the gland in your neck settles down soon, I remember it being such a frustrating thing when I had it a constant reminder of your body fighting this infection. I still believe it will settle down Gill, it did take quite a while for mines to settle down fully but the intensity did lessen as time went on and remember in most cases with mono this kind of thing is a normal reaction to the virus and not any additional cause for concern.

It's totally understandable that things like that would cause worry when going through / recovering from mono, it's such a horrible virus. Anxiety is an awful thing Gill, I hope you are managing okay and remember just keep taking it a day at at time and remember that things will get better and that all these symptoms will disappear as you start to recover fully.

Yes I was at the doctor earlier in the week, have pulled a muscle or something in my side which was bothering me a lot, I'm doing better now than I was then and still just taking things a day at a time myself with my back and health generally. Thanks for your kind words and concern Gill, I do really appreciate it.

      Hi Ashley,

I was just wondering how you are doing? Hoping so much that things have been more settled for you and that you are not getting those symptoms now on the back sides and bottom of ribs. I'm believing that this is going to be a year of breakthrough and good health and blessings for you Ashley - definitely hoping and praying for that.

      Hi Ashley,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're still in terrible pain, that is just awful I do hope and pray that a breakthrough and turnaround with things can come very soon. Pain is such a frightening, distressing and debilitating thing Ashley, I do hope that you have managed to find a good doctor / specialist that is able to help with things, even trying a herbalist or something like that, I'm sure these are options you may already have explored.

I do pray that this will be a much better year for you Ashley and the year where your body really starts to feel significant improvement and much more like itself again - hang in there and don't give up, progress with this thing can it seems unfortunately take longer for some than it does for others - but it doesn't mean to say that you won't get there and get fully better - I've read stories on here of people who had a rough 2 years or so with mono but then improved a lot in the third year and went on to make a fully recovery. Hoping and praying that will the case for you, I'm still believing you are going to get better.

I am doing okay, thanks for taking the time to ask. Have still been dealing with some ups and downs but generally things been more settled this last couple of months and just trying to take things a day at a time with the things I've been dealing with too, and trying to keep myself busy and not to get too down.

      Craig
