Strange sensation / tightness in chest and upper throat

I'm hoping for some help please..I have been feeling this strange sensation in the chest and lower throat. It's a sensation which I can only describe as a heavy feeling (no pain) and a tickling cough sensation in the chest. This then moves upwards to the lower throat area and makes it as though it is becoming tight. It makes me clear the throat and try to get the mucus out. I can feel a bit coming out but not much. The sensation makes me want to cough.I have been to doctor many times and he has listened to my chest and back. He's said that it's all clear. In the end he gave me antibiotics which I took for 7 days but it made no difference. He's also given me ventolin but it made no difference. I had chest x-ray and that showed clear. He referred me to ENT specialist who did a nasal endoscopy and that was clear. I have also done a barium swallow and that was also clear. However, I am still having this problem. I have also noticed that when I cough, I hear a grinding noise in my chest which sounds like friction. I've now been referred to a respiratory specialist and my appointment is next Friday. I'm really worried as I don't know what it can be. Has anyone else has this strange feeling? Can it be infection of the lower airway which has not cleared up? All this has been going on for 3 months now and I'm really worried and not sure what to do...Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you..

Hi Rai27. Sorry to heat that you've not been feeling well. It must be quite distressing. Perhaps this blog post by Dr Sarah Jarvis could shed some light on your problems with your throat: https://patient.info/blogs/sarah-says/2016/08/swallowing-problems-common-causes-and-treatments?utm_source=forum&utm_medium=reply

Hi,
A couple years ago I remember searching and praying for answers regarding the exact health issues you're experiencing. I've seen over a handful of doctors and no one could tell me what was wrong. For a long time I was eating terribly and consuming processed food constantly. Always eating out and
ordering in. My sinus allergies got worse as the years passed. And GI issues progressed. I relate to the clearing of the throat, tickling, crackling in chest verbatim. 2013/2014 is when the chest and throat tightness began progressing. January 2016 I weighed 140lbs (I'm 27 this is the heaviest I've ever been which is not normal for me), I saw my primary March 2016. He prescribed Prilosec, one pill for 2 weeks then use as needed after that. (FYI: all the while i saw over a hand full of Drs to get answers, ENT, gastro, pulmonologist, X-rays, Endocrinologist etc) Stopping the Prilosec triggered something.. it felt like someone poured acid down my throat I was in excruciating pain. Of course my gastro and primary had no idea how to help me. I came to the conclusion I needed to figure this out on my own. Fast forward to July 2016. At this point I couldn't digest food or keep n e thing down. My weight dropped down to 108lbs. Of course all the while my chest and throat was extremely tight at this point. A holistic nutritionist who practices "nutrition response testing" visited my mother's job to present a seminar on her treatment. I decided what else do I have to lose I've tried everything. Fast forward to this passed Aug 2017 (1 year working with her) we came to the realization I had many many food allergies. Wheat, dairy, soy, processed sugar/food. Lyme disease, Epstein Barr virus, and many heavy metals like Mercury and aluminum are attacking my body/immune systems. Now before I started working w/ her I came a cross this book/Author **THIS IS THE #1 REASON WHY I'M SENDING THIS REPLY** Anthony William "Medical Medium". Please please keep an open mind to what he does and his theory. Basically he strongly believes "food is our medicine" and it god honestly is. Please believe me when I say working hand in hand w/ my nutritionist to eliminate all of the inflammatory foods, educating myself on what foods nourish the body, and which foods cause havoc the tightness, tiredness, intestinal pain, bloating, cramping, joint pain, head ache, palpitations the list goes on!! Subsided. I realized I may need to transition into a plant based diet. Meat personally makes me feel sick, it just doesn't digest well. I also stopped eating meat and felt a huge difference w/ the tightness. I will be seeing a plant based dietician at the end of this month. I feel very optimistic about this bc my life has changed drastically w/ the changes I've made. I will tell u please please give this a shot. Read his first book, take a look at his blog, Instagram/Facebook..I promise this will completely change ur life. I truly hope this resignates w/ u. You need to be your own doctor. Watch the documentaries on Netflix like "what the health", "forks over knives"..there are so many doc's w/ great information. Please feel free to ask any questions or ask for more information on links or more info in general. Feel good.

1. The medical problems that you are encountering is GERD (Gastro Easophageal Reflux Disease).
2. Refer your case to a Gastroenterologist. you will feel better with Rabeprazole (Proton Pump Inhibitor).
3. You may need to undergo an Upper Endoscopy and Manometry test.
4. Have atleast 3 hrs gap between dinner and sleep. Sleep by elevating your upper body to ease the problems.
5. Most important of all visit a Medical Specialist (Gastroenterologist) immediately.
Regards.

Thank you or your reply.
Yes my next step is to go and visit a Gastroenterologist. You'll see from my other post that I have seen other specialist and have done many tests. What I don't understand is if it is reflux, why did it come on so suddenly.

I would really like to hear where you are at now with all of this? As I am having a barium swallow done tomorrow and then a manometry test done in two weeks.

Hi, I saw your post is the most recent and part of your situation is similar to mine (the steroids and the symptoms of chest tightness, throats and neck feeling weird...)
I hope you are better now and you found out was was causing it.
I have AS, been on Enbrel for 3 months and developed a very annoying and persistent dry cough and then some difficulties in breathing. Stopped Enbrel for 2 weeks now, started on steroids, the cough just got better, but my chest tightness is worse, I feel like a pressure on my chest, clavicles and throat, mostly on the left side, with soreness in the neck; sometimes pressure in my head and ears) . It's not asthma, done the tests.
If you have something similar, I would appreciate an advice. Thank you! B

Hi,
No, I have been told these are symptoms to Enbrel. The chest tightness went away after 3 weeks without Enbrel and also the coughing got much better. Now, I have started again that treatment and if I will have the same symptoms, then I will know it is definitely not working and try another one.
I hope you will get better and find out what is causing those symptoms in your case. It could be even something gastrointestinal, or anxiety.
Take care and let me know how things go, if you don't mind.
