Strange sensation / tightness in chest and upper throat

I'm hoping for some help please..I have been feeling this strange sensation in the chest and lower throat. It's a sensation which I can only describe as a heavy feeling (no pain) and a tickling cough sensation in the chest. This then moves upwards to the lower throat area and makes it as though it is becoming tight. It makes me clear the throat and try to get the mucus out. I can feel a bit coming out but not much. The sensation makes me want to cough.I have been to doctor many times and he has listened to my chest and back. He's said that it's all clear. In the end he gave me antibiotics which I took for 7 days but it made no difference. He's also given me ventolin but it made no difference. I had chest x-ray and that showed clear. He referred me to ENT specialist who did a nasal endoscopy and that was clear. I have also done a barium swallow and that was also clear. However, I am still having this problem. I have also noticed that when I cough, I hear a grinding noise in my chest which sounds like friction. I've now been referred to a respiratory specialist and my appointment is next Friday. I'm really worried as I don't know what it can be. Has anyone else has this strange feeling? Can it be infection of the lower airway which has not cleared up? All this has been going on for 3 months now and I'm really worried and not sure what to do...Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you..

    *****MY ISSUE RESOLVED*****

Hello rai and everyone else experiencing this issue. I hope you are in good health now. I posted a few months ago about this issue and I seemed to have finally gotten success and so I hope to be able to help with some, this may not help everyone but it sure did help me. I've had this cough for about 3 years now. Like most, it doesn't seem like a health concern as I wasn't in pain or it didn't disrupt my life to a great extent. But it was annoying. Very annoying. I used to be able to run miles at a time. But ever since I got this cough, I've had trouble making it through one mile without a coughing fit. It would feel like a pressure constantly in the back of my throat(like a need for a small cough) however this happened a lot and was always worse in the morning when I woke up and when my body was undergoing stress(gym activity, etc.. ). I went to see my primary care doctor who tested me for GERD and gave me some medicine for something with reflux causing my cough. No go. Didn't work. Then they did a breathing test, and gave me an inhaler for asthma. Still did not work. They tried generic mucinex and cough suppressants. While cough supressants worked while I used it. the effects did not last long at all. After multiple tests and multiple drugs, my doctor then referred me to an ENT specialist where they took an xray of my sinuses and had me take a steroid. Well nothing could be found with those treatments. Then they referred me to a lung specialist. Luckily for me, my friend, heard of this cough specialist and allergy clinic. Well I then made an appointment for the cough specialist portion as I was 90% confident that it couldn't be allergies(Never had an allergy attack, and I'm not allergic to any foods or medicines) so it didn't even need to cross my mind. Well I see this cough specialist. And they research my Sinus issue and then proceed to do an allergy test. I thought it was weird cause I wanted the cough specialist. They assured me my cough could be something with allergies as weird as it sounded. So I get proded in the back(and I hate needles) and after about passing out and about 15 minutes, it turns out that I was allergic to about every type of pollen there is that they test for. And I also had a small sinus infection. They proceeded to give me 6 different types of medicine to all take at once. I can't remember their names. Though, I can confidently say that after taking the medicines I now don't have the issue. I was able to run without any sort of coughing fit, and boy does it feel great. The only downfall is I have to continue to take a few of these to ensure it doesn't come back. They recommended I do allergy shots as well to help build my immunity. I actually plan on it after the new year starts, I mean who would want to live with that annoyance? Like I said. This may not help everyone out, but if you're experiencing some of this things mentioned in mine or rai's post it could be related to allergies. Don't rule it out. But I wanted to give everyone my final words to give a sense of direction for those who feel like "it may be in their mind" or "No doctor is actually helping me". If you can see a cough specialist thats linked with allergies. Do it. It might help. Or one or the other. But don't give up because if you're feeling anywhere where I was. There is a light to solving this issue. Thank you everyone for posting and for everyone's help.

Yes sir, I have exactly the same thing ! Been to doctor many times and they have done lots of tests, and probably think I am nuts. This is real, as you know. Feels like something stuck in throat all the time and like a weight sitting on my chest ! Mine started a few years back come and go, but resurfaced after an air flight to Asia, which also produced a loss of hearing and tinnitus in me. It is impossible to fathom all the weird stuff on planes these days!

Good thing plague has been eradicated.

Could be a virus. But I can tell you I get tinitus once in a while along with those other symptoms and I am being treated for Lyme and bartonella.

I have had a feeling of sth stuck in my throat many years ago and I was dizgnosed with helicobacter pylori in my stomach. They gave me 2 antibiotics at the same time. After the third day of the antibiotic the feeling went away and never returned for years and years. i am not sure if this was the bacteria in the stomach or a simple sinus infection that I was not aware of.  Now 20 years later I started having same symptoms after moving to Florida and developing allergies and post nasal drip. I am not sure if it is the phlegm blocking my larynx or the larynx actually swelling up. the feeling is really bad. One more thing is that many people have similar feelings with anxiety. Steroids cause anxiety, Omeprazol cause anxiety for me as well.  So be aware that the medication you take might be a culprit.

Felt relieved to know that there are other people who are feeling same symptom as i feel.i was diagnosed with GERD,Hiatus herniaand oesophageal ulcer 7 weeks back and since then m taking PPI and levosulpiride but m not feeling much relief from them. However empty stomach potato juice, alovera juice and diet restriction has helped me.Doing morning jumps after taking hot water too.

I'm also having the same exact problem, i thought that it was sleep apnea since i was a bit overweight or because of my sinusitis problem. But afer seeing different doctors and several test nothing really helps. Then finally i see a specialist in medicine and the doctor found out that it was GERD and he diagnosed me with medicine, finally the uncomfortable feeling in the throat.,sudden blocked of airway during sleep, panic and difficulty in swallowing saliva all dissappear.

HI, I was told two days ago by a friend who had a similar problem that he did voice exercises and it worked.  Now call it coincidence, but I started doing it straight away and didn't have a lump in throat feeling yesterday - first time in two weeks.  I'm not saying it is a miracle cure but it is possible that it is helping.  You tense your throat and grin while say hee-ee-ee-ee-ee.  I just did it whenever I thought about it yesterday, and when I felt the build up to the lump sensation.  I'm going to explore more voice exercises.  I'd love to know if this helps anyone else.  Also, anxiety seems to set it off for me.
