Strange sensations

Hi

I was wondering whether anyone as had the following symptoms.

Basically, I feel like I am moving up and down when I am standing. Just like being on a boat with a slight wave action

sounds like a inner ear problem, when their is unequal pressure in your ears you would feel that way

      Hi Will

Thanks for taking your time in repling.

Thankfully, I have no issues with my inner ear or anything to do with that area.

    Hi kevin53196,

I don't actually have these symptoms myself but a feeling of unsteadiness or movement when you are stood still can be linked to your ears. You may have an inner ear infection or might have the start of a cold.

If this feeling does not go over the next day or so, maybe go and speak to a pharmacist or book an appointment with your doctor who can perform a thorough assessment.

    Hope this helps!

      Hi Justin

Just to let you know that I had my ears checked yesterday and there was nothing wrong with them.

Been asked to see my doctor in a couple of weeks if I still have the sensation

Hi Kevin - I think like the others have said, there's something going on in your inner ear.  Not your middle ear, where you have the parts you know as ear drum, hammer/anvil/stirrup tiny bones, eustacian tube and sometimes fluid. But, the inner ear has the cochlear part that conducts hearing and the vestibular system which relates to balance, proprioception, etc.

It could be a visual disturbance, though, if it's not vestibular. The nerves, brain, spinal cord...are all used in balance. Generally, with nothing else but the boat sensation you describe, I'm guessing vestibular (like vertigo). If it happens when you stand up after sitting/lying down, then it could be blood-pressure related. But, if you were walking, then stopped in standing position and your body felt movement - seems likely that it's due to inner ear/vestibular system.

GL at the doctor tomorow!!  Sometimes movement/dizziness is just temporary and I hope that's what you have!

      Hi aveline

Thank you very much for your message, it was very helpful.

I should, I hope, find out tomorrow if it is anything to do with the inner part of my ear.

Once again, thank you very much

Kev, you were right!  Although they can't check the inner ear...it's nearly in the brain. But, you don't have the crazy level of vertigo that many of us seem to have...so it's probably MUCH easier to totally rule out inner ear dysfunction in your case!

So, could this sensation be from your vision? Or maybe it's blood-pressure related?  Maybe it's just very minor and resolves on it's own, whatever it is. smile

Do see a doc if it continues, but I wish you well and maybe it's on it's way out already!

I had the same thing there's techniques you can try online but I really recommended getting the eply done by an ear specialist it sucks and isn't fun going through it doesn't hurt its just a weird feeling you will feel worse for about a week or two through main thing is that after you don't move your head for I think so many hours they will tell you but after it feels like you have vertigo 300 times worse everything looks strange and it had anxiety for a while after but it gradually gets better and better till it's gone walking helps after the process because it's pretty much like retraining your brain sugar seemed to make it worse after the eply until a while but I feel completely normal I wore a neck brace so I made sure I didn't move my head until my time was up

      Hi Ash

Thanks for that, seems a bit extreme, but had my ears checked yesterday............ nothing wrong with them.

Been asked to go back to my doctor in a couple of weeks if I still have the sensation.

      Many thanks
