Strange sensations on scalp

Hello everyone,

I’ve had anxiety on and off over the years and recently (I think it’s to do with hormones as I’m perimeno) it can develop out of the blue for no reason and I’m having burning, sensitive sensations on my scalp.  I also get tight feeling on my neck and a band type pressure on my head. Could this all be down to anxiety?

I get migraines and TMJ, always on the left side.

I can deal with most symptoms of anxiety and know they’ll pass but the scalp sensations are horrible, has anyone else experienced this?

    Hello NORMAL

When it comes to the scalp, I have Psoriasis and I have to be careful what I use. Some shampoos may not be agreeing with your skin, or if you wash your hair to much or little both can cause an itchy scalp. I use shampoos that have a great deal of moisturizer in and that seems to work sometimes. When I am bad and my scalp is itchy with scabs I use a Polytarplus shampoo and that also helps.

If your scalp is normal and itchy only it may be stress that is causing your complaint, the feelings you have in your neck will be caused by Stress/Anxiety, that will also effect the jaw  and your Migraine. If you are grinding your teeth or clamping your jaw I would advise you talk to your GP and make an appointment with your dentist. Sometimes as we get older our bite collapses and because teeth are missing the jaw becomes stressed and we get jaw ache]

      Hi Bob,

I have had some dermatitis on my scalp, almost cleared up now.  That could be part of it.

It sounds like it’s stress and anxiety causing the neck and jaw too.

      Thanks for that.

      Merry Christmas,

I definitely get similar sensations in my scalp and head.  I’m pretty sure it’s due to tension.  Usually if I take some deep breaths and concentrate on relaxing my shoulders, it gets better.  Good luck!
