Strange symptom with chicken pox

Posted , 1 user is following.

I am 50 yrs old and have had CP for 4 days now. Luckily, I feel relatively OK but have a strange numbness along my teeth/gums. It feels as if I have been to the Dentist and the injection if wearing off. This only started two days ago and I am wondering if this is a symptom of CP and if anyone else has had this?

Hi Sarah ,you sure it's chicken pox and not shingles, you get numbness with that,or it can be allergy.

I have tingling in mouth, lips, sore tongue, which is caused by an allergy, namely Rhinitis.Do you suffer with Hayfever ? Also have tinnitus.

Chicken pox and shingles same family.they look the same .

Hi Marlene, well, I have never had chicken pox before, dont know how I managed to avoid it for so long really!  So am pretty certain it is CP. It has followed the classic pattern.  I did read that the shingles virus does cause numbness etc but dont think it is shingles. I have no allergies/hayfever etc.  Was going to ring NHS Direct for advice but they have been 'disbanded' sad.

Hi again, didn't know NHS direct had been disbanded, more pressure on A and E.Ive never used it,but know people do.Symptom checker is another no go area for me,but people use it.

My husband had facial shingles,no pain but numbness, even to this day 9 yrs on .

I'd go let a dr have a look,be on safe side, not heard your prob with chickenpox, maybe one off thing, but my allergies give me the mouth you describe.Try an antihistamine, see if that helps.Let me know how you go on Sarah xx

As you say, puts extra pressure on a&e! I'm determined to find out what this is now. Ill report back with my findings smile thanks for your help x
