Strange symptoms with 24 hour ph test

Posted , 2 users are following.

I had my 24 hour ph test on Monday - have no idea what the result will be - as I have silent reflux and have acid attacks on occassion - but not always. I did eat and drink lots of trigger foods - and half way through my main meal my nose started to run - constantly for 8 hours! I went through a whole box of tissues and more! Everytime I laid down - it didn't stop - and I started sneezing. I would have thought it was the probe - but as soon as I eat some breakfast it stopped. I had a few episodes of acid taste and dry retching & coughing too - but I am really worried the results will not show any acid!?! Anyone else experienced this???

    Glenn,

I saw my doctor today and will have the ph test next Wedneaday.

My nose starts to run when I eat. I also have mucus enough to have a pit up.

My doctor said that if it shows acid reflux, in his experience is a high chance I may also have a fungus in my esophagus and he will treat me for that..

How was it eating with the tube in?

Did you have to monitor your activities or write anything down?

I had the ph test in 1987.

I had to keep a log and felt horrible with the large tube they used back then. I know by now medicine has improved.

    Has it?

      Hi Dreaming,

The tube wasn't too big, but I could feel it all the time. I didn't like the tugging sensation when eating - but if you take things slowly you should be ok. I had to log everytime I ate, laid down and felt pain. The machine I was attached to did not give a ph reading - so I have no idea what the result was. There were buttons on this machine that corresponded with the written log - pressed them as you wrote the information down. I have to say - I was expecting nausea and coughing - but I have never experienced nasal problems like this! I'd say expect the unexpected. I would say that if you are having manometry test as well - the tube for manometry is slightly bigger - so when the ph tube goes in - it doesn't feel as bad. Hope all goes well for you.

      Thanks Glenn,

This is the ph test I remember.

I will participate this time. My test for 1997, not 1987

It 1997 my was results were negative for reflux.

I was so aggravated by the tube and depressed that I really did not record my information on eating correctly.

      This time I will.

I am expecting it to be a lot easier than the first time because I am a willing participate not seeing myself as a victim

      Hi Dreaming,

Don't forget to eat and drink trigger foods for a much better result. It's 24 hours of feeling unwell - but will hopefully give you the best results.

Pick things you really like - but don't agree with you. That's what I did. I was quite glad to get back to my strict diet!
