Stress Fractures after Hip Replacement

THP in Dec of 2016 and the doctor chipped a bone in my femoral head. He used glue and sewed the boned back in place. I was on a walker for 8 weeks due to very soft bones. 9 months after surgery, I could not put weight on my leg. I had second surgery (as a last resort) and doctor found that the bone had displaced so they removed it. 4 months later, I tripped and had a stress fracture in my foot, same my leg. I wore a boot for 6 weeks. As soon as I took the boot off, I had severe pain, again in my femur. Doctor says the symptoms sound like a stress fracture. After X-rays, nuclear bone scan, hip aspiration, cat scan and two Orthopaedics, I have no answers. The hip is not loose and not infected but I cannot walk more that about 50 steps without pain. I have been on a cane for 6 weeks and no better. 2nd ortho wants an MRI. 3 months ago I started proliia and bioidentical hormones to strengthen my bones. Thinking of going to Johns Hopkins. I feel so out of control and depressed. I don’t know what to do. I feel like my care is not coordinated and I am getting nowhere. Any ideas?

What a horror story. The only thing that you can do that should help your recovery is to use two crutches until you are walking really well.
Best wishes, Richard

I’m so sorry you have more than your share of problems. Most of the time I feel like care is not coordinated, and sometimes I am surprised when it goes right. At this point I would probably suggest you seek another opinion. Before you go, make a simple outline of what happened and when. Short, easy just have dates and what was done. Include medicines you have been given, and if you have had any injections. Bring any copies of tests. mri,s, X-rays, etc. and a copy of the operating report that you can get from the hospital where the surgery was done. Just a note, if the hospital wants to charge for the op report, get a copy from your doctors office. They usually don’t charge. Then you can easily show the new doctor just what you have had done, results, and what’s happening now. Good luck and let us know how you’re doing.

wow....... you poor thing...... but in 1986 when I had my TRHR it took 3 years before I could walk on the leg....... then I had sharp mid thigh pain for 20 + years...... now it is more of a dull ache ...... but that is because the hip itself is raging again even though it is fake! lol......... I never got any answers until 3 weeks ago...... the specialist said the fake hip is broken and worn out...... the left one is just 159 years old! lol...... same as the shoulders, knees, and elbows........ If you live in the Uk or anywhere but the USA ask to be sent for Hyperberic Therapy...... what they do for deep sea divers to the bends...... any way in UK, Germany, Japan, and Israel it is used as it encourages the bone to heal itself....... it's the osteoblast vs osteoclast thing....... you can find out a lot of information on this...... I will pray that you have better updates in the future..... If you can get to John's Hopkins or any Teaching Hospital/University you will be better off.
Good luck
