The first thing I thought of when I read your symptoms is a sinus problem.

I strongly believe the best answers you need are from a Neurologist, get a referral to see a Neurologist, I see one and he treats me for migraines, all kinds of headaches but they have the best answers that your primary care physicians won't give you.

hard to get a referral because my doctor wont but would love to hear their opinion

Stress is likely to have caused your headaches especially since your are worrying about your IBS Your doctor identified tension

and was right to advise painkillers which should deal with the pain. Persevere with painkillers which can also help with your IBS along with antispasmodics. Prolonged worry may cause the headaches to continue so try distraction techniques such as a hobby or light exercise to take your mind off your IBS. Try relaxation therapy.Once you control your IBS, this should help your anxiety which in turn should help get rid of your headaches.

    good ways to relax include:

    meditation/ mindfulness

    yoga

    going for a walk

    listening to calming music

    having a hot bath

    reading

if you have a pet, playing with them or stroking them has been shown to reduce tension and lower blood pressure.

if your neck or shoulder muscles are tense this will cause headaches. try a hot water bottle or wheat bag on these areas if this is the case.

also make sure you are well hydrated as this can cause headaches too

    Hi Han

I actually just had a 2 week left sided headache (probably from stressing about my severe IBS flare). I couldnt believe it was from tension either. Getting the muscle knots out of your back and neck are key - I saw a massage therapist and had tons and tons of knots under my shoulder blades down my spine. She worked some out and then my mom and husband worked on pushing on them and loosening them up and when those all went so did my headache. Do deep breathing exercises and stretch those muscles - a tennis ball can work against a wall or on a mat on those muscle knots as well. Give it a try! I Had a 10/10 headache and was also losing hope it would ever go.

Massage therapy can make anxiety far worse, cause more pain and extreme exhaustion. I tried this when chiropractory left me with severe pain. I had nausea, anxiety and a very unpleasant spaced out feeling. I was left with severe pain and exhaustion for nine months . These treatments can disturb the inner workings of the body, For me, they led to my IBS. Relaxation therapy, meditation and listening to calming music are far better for releasing tension and anxiety.
