Struggling

Hi,

I have been struggling with vertigo for nearly six/seven months now and it's non-stop. It was set off by Moviprep (I have IBS) and it's ruined my life ever since. Tablets don't seem to help and I'm feeling extremely suicidal, has anyone had that ear operation that helps? Wondering if anyone has any tips or advice I'm done with life right now I can't take the fuzzy brain or the pulsating and I can't take the dizziness anymore.

Thank you in advance.

I am so sorry to hear you feel like this ...don't you have any medication to take that helps? Have you been to a specialist / Neurologist?

      Hi,

I've apparently tried every drug for vertigo (doesn't seem to be many) and none of them give me any relief. I've seen an ENT once. GPs many times.

Sounds like hell and a lot of us sure can relate.

What at has your doc attributed the dizziness to? Have you been diagnosed with anything. its interesting that you have attributed this to what I presume is medication for IBS?

hang in there as it gets better.

Sonic, Moviprep isn't a medication for IBS, it's a one-off preparation for colonoscopy - which would normally be done for any bowel problem. It's a mixture of mineral salts that leach fluid from the bloodstream into the intestine, causing an extreme laxative effect. It's known for causing dizziness, but I'm shocked to hear that the effect could last six months.

I was told it's BBPV and then saw a GP the other day who said it can't be that due to my ears being so painful, so I'm back at square one.

I only mention IBS because I read that vertigo can also be a symptom of IBS.

Yeah I had the moviprep and it went wrong. I've had it two times before and it went fine but for some reason it didn't this time. I was bed bound and puking for two weeks straight after it and now I'm still dizzy. I don't understand.

Do you have a diagnoses ? There are so many different diagnoses. Vestibular neuritis , labrinthitis, meineres , BPPV , migraine associated vertigo aka vestibular migraine. Are your dizzy constant or episodes? Do you have headaches? Is your dizziness positional? What meds are you on? The motion sickness tabs are crap if that's what your on they don't do anything for me at all. There are stronger meds out there. Also some pretty nice anxiety meds that help even though your main problem is not anxiety inner ear issues cause a lot of anxiety.

I was told I had BBPV by an ENT and then a GP said it can't be due to ear pain. I wake up dizzy and go to bed dizzy - I don't get a single moment where I'm not dizzy. I get a "fuzzy" and "tingly" feeling in my brain and also experience really bad pains. My dizziness can be triggered by absolutely anything - sitting still, any emotion (like too happy, sad, etc) I'm on betahistine 16mg and nothing I've tried (even this) works.

      Thank you for the advice.

Hi! IM so sorry you are experiencing dizziness/vertigo! Let me ask (ask I have been dizzy for a while now), is it a rocking and swaying feeling? Like motion when you are still?? That's what I have. Amitriptyline and Effexor plus exercise has helped some. I feel like I'm always moving except when I'm in a car. It's called mal de debarquement. I believe it's related to hormones and probably a lack of serotonin (maybe a brain/gut connection). What are your exact symptoms??

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this.

My exact symptoms are; blurry vision, tiredness, fuzzy/tingly brain, pains in my brain, room moving, feeling sick, extreme pain in my ears (mainly right) and ringing/humming in my ears.

      Hi,

?I have just seen this post of yours, I don't know if you have seen the discussion I started outlining the symptoms I've been having and what you described is exactly one of the symptom I have.

?I had never heard of mal de debarquement until you mentioned it, do you mind describing to me the other symptoms that comes along with this? I however have not been on a boat or anything like that so that would not have been the trigger if I have it, but I also been having throat problems since the off-balance feeling began which has affected my speech, I had a period for about a month where I constantly had muscle twitches especially in my feet, I have also noticed some joint problems in my knees which affects the way my leg flexes do these sound similar to symptoms you had?

      ?Thanks

      Hi Kelvin,

Have you seen a doctor about this? If not, I really think you should.

    Hi GG,

About twenty years ago, I was diagnosed with BPPV.  I remember I had very dark thoughts as I tried to adjust to this new reality.  My neurologist sent me to a therapist who performed the "epley maneuver".  If you are suffering from bppv, the eply should give you relief very quickly.  The therapist will also give you exercises to do at home to help you get back to feeling normal again.  Over time, you will learn how to simply avoid positions that make you uncomfortable .  Vertigo (spinning) usually last only seconds with bppv but even so can be very disturbing.

About three years ago, I was diagnosed with Menieres Disease.  With Menieres, spinning can go on for a very long time and attacks come from "out of the blue" with very little warning.  The good news with Menieres is that it can usually be controlled effectively with medication.

BTW I read with interest your connecting your colonoscopy prep with you dizziness.  I suffer from IBS and I had a colonoscopy this month.  Ten days later I suffered one of the most violent vertigo attacks I've ever experienced.  Up until this time, I was taking meds and had no events since starting them 3 years ago.  Like you, I still am feeling wobbly, pressure in my head and dizziness.  GG, I've been here before and it always subsides.  Set up an appointment today with a neurologist, ENT or a balance specialist.  You don't need to suffer with this.

Good luck and hang in there,  this will pass.

      Hi Ricci San,

Could I ask you what medication you take for Menieres disease? As I suffer with it ....and do you take this medication all the time ..or just when you have an attack?

      Good Morning Jacqueline,

I am taking Acetazolamide,  Yea, it took me a long time to learn to pronounce it.  My neurologist started me on this medicine shortly after I was diagnosed with Menieres about 3 years ago.  My neurologist says this medicine was developed for high altitude mountain climbers.  I take 250 mg once in the morning and once again before bed.  Absolutely no side effects.

      Good luck.

      Hi,

I'm sorry you also are going through this.

I saw an ENT who told me it's BBPV but then saw a doctor the other day who told me it's not. So I'm slightly confused and feel a bit helpless.

      Hey Jacqueline,

I'm in Florida.  I don't think it is a mainstream medication but I think your neurologist will know it.  since I started this medication about 3 years ago, I've had no episodes until about 2 weeks ago.  It was a vicious attack that spun me around for almost 45 minutes.  I called my neurologist about whether I should increase the dosage but  I haven't heard back yet.
