Struggling to adapt to being stress free after 5 years of chronic fatigue (adrenal exhaustion) ?

Hi, has anyone found that they actually became addicted to stress and struggle to cope without it?! I had a super stressful life for about 10 years but much more so in the last 5 years. Adrenal exhaustion, caused low thyroid and early menopause.... left my job and bingo I’m starting to feel human again ... but just don’t seem to be able to adapt to having no stress...? I have lost the ability to relax, I come alive about 9pm at night and have to force myself to try and get to sleep at 1-2am... (I do get up about 8am ), I am getting craving (cigarettes, food or wine) - I feel I need something and my resolve is weak but to be honest I relied on those too when I was stressed. I have a very healthy diet but since I dropped the stress I am putting on lots of weight???  I still walk about 20 miles a week and eating /drinking same amount of food/wine as before?? Lots of info about how to support yourself if you’re in a stressful situation but not much to say about how to support yourself to recover....I feel a bit like I’m going through withdrawal symptoms, and was really hoping I might actually drop a few pounds if I dropped the stress?! Any suggestions much appreciated x

I'm getting ready to close my business...I, too, wonder if I will be able to relax and let my body heal. I am also afraid of being addicted to stress. I know I am only commiserating, sorry I'm not helping. Just wanted you to know that the struggle is real.

Do you have chronic fatigue or chronic fatigue syndrome? they are not the same thing this is something a lot of people get confused about and by the information in your post it sounds like the first only.

Sounds like you need to do some stress management (key is keeping logs for everything from what you eat/drink, the times you eat/drink, when you sleep for how long even naps, times you feel stressed, exercise and so on)

dropping stress has caused weight gain are you sure it tends to be the other way and when people gain with no stress it's because they have taken up something like smoking/drinking more or enjoying say more chocolate also what do you define as a healthy diet? I have many people stating that to myself but when i look at the details it's not as healthy as they think.

20 miles a week really is not that much walking it's not even 3 miles a day and that wont drop weight, key is diet and walking isn't high enough intensity to drop weight it's more about increasing general health.

exercise wise cycling can help it suits all different types of people and helps in both general health plus weight loss but you will need to do fair amount of it and not just so along at a slow pace try to do hour plus a day and few days try upping the pace if it's too much up the pace then ease of for few minutes then up it again this really helps.
